Here's a snapshot of the day and projects I worked on....
We had a number of witches at the crop on Saturday, including Doris and Georgia!
I worked on some Halloween kits...
Above - Michelle's collage, and below from the store...
Then, to top off a great day, I won this G45 Steampunk Spells pack!!!
And...my friend Doris won the grand prize - a free crop!!
Definitely a fun day!!!

Challenge: Steampunk Spells Clock

I do love a good challenge! Over at SanDee's and amelie's Steampunk Challenge, there is a Tic Tac Toe challenge, which lets you choose your parts. I chose clock, gears, and ribbons for mine.
It all started with a Tim Holtz clock, and then the gears in my steampunk imagination started whirring, and the play began.
First step - painting! I used Distress Paints - salty ocean, bundled sage, seedless preserves, mowed lawn, antique bronze, and tarnished brass, and I am liking this. I kept getting paint on the glass and wiping it off, probably should have masked it. Next step, add rock candy crackle, which got rather drippy, and in my impatience I went for the heat gun, and ended up with some interesting results. I was definitely inspired by my Creative Chemistry 102 class!
Here is a close up. After the crackle dried enough, I went over it with Gathered Twig distress ink. I love to play with color!
Next step, layer some flowers (inked up), gears, pocket watch, embellies on the front cover, then I just started to play and forgot to take photos along the way. So, here are several to show you how it ended up!
I really wanted to create some depth with layers, so inside are Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells elements, gears, a domino, bottle...
Brainstorm! Put a tealight inside to illuminate it! Love the effect!
Inside layering detail...
Found this neat octopus which just looked like it belonged, and added some cheesecloth fibers.
Detail of some texture on the back - one of those "mistakes" with the rock candy.
A secret key to hang on the back hook seemed perfect, because I would think steampunk spells would be pretty secret.
Lots of ribbons, cobwebby cheesecloth...
There you have it - my Steampunk Spells Clock! I will also be showing this at my art gathering this week. I can't wait to see what everyone else did.
Time to celebrate Samhain!

Inspired by CC102 and Simon Says Nautical Challenge

Lucky me, I have a holiday today to play! I have been having loads of fun with Creative Chemistry 102. Believe me, I have a long way to go and 4 days worth of material to learn, but does that mean I can't stop along the way and play? Not in my world! So here I go...
Playing with the background - distress paints, and ahoy there matey...I see Salty ocean!
Now to add a layer of distress inks to the top, and what's that you spy? Oh yes, Salty Ocean!
I made four of these...3 to go to school tomorrow for some science buddies, and one to use on creating a gratitude layout for an art exchange.
Layering on papers, film reel, filmstrip, metal, twine...to show that I am grateful for life, my life.
I definitely had fun this afternoon playing and creating. I am going to enter this into SSS nautical challenge - remember the salty ocean? The world - mostly water, the distress techniques using water? Yes, I can make this fit a nautical theme!
Have a grand day!

Creative Chemistry Day 1 - Finished!!

Distress paint resist, then distress inks
Industrial Metallic detail - perfect for steampunk!
Wow! I have had a lot of fun with my distress paints...glad I just ordered the new colors!

Creative Chemistry 102 Eroded Metallic

Close up detail - Distress Paint on the bottom, then distress metallic paint, then ink makes for a very cool texture.
Here's the tag I just finished. Two more techniques to go and then I will have Day 1 complete.

Creative Chemistry 102 Distress Crackle

Who knew you could get such fabulous effects from rock candy crackle and distress paint?
Amazing texture! This is such a cool technique from Tim Holtz...I let my crackle dry overnight, then added the paint today. LOVE this!
As promised, here is the Queen of hearts tag with the heart added. Originally I planned to put the small heart on the tag, but like the large heart better.
Off to create more...

Creative Chemistry 102 Play

Class started on Monday and today is the first chance I have had to play, so I am on Day 1 playing with Distress paints. I layered and marbled the paints on the bottom layer, then some distress inks on top, and spritzed with water.
Stamped it with the Queen of hearts, added some distress ribbon, and waiting for the crackle heart to dry, which I will add later.
Learned how to make this cool distressed number
Love how this marbling came out!!

Finished the play with the scientist, added the 1, ribbon and charm.
I need MORE play time!!

Back to Class!

Signed up for round two of Creative Chemistry (102) with Tim Holtz, and plan to share some of my versions of what I learn right here on the blog. These are great classes to learn so many techniques from Tim. I can't wait to play. Now to slow the Earth to make a 30 hour day!

Stamp Camp October Card

Just thought I would share the Halloween card I made to exchange this month.
A little background stamping, a little fussy cutting, a little Washi, a little layering, and we have a card.
