Use Something New!

Hello Monday my friends, and a very happy new year to you all! I hope 2019 is filled with creative joy for each of us. To start off the year, our challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is to: USE SOMETHING NEW and we are showcasing Simon Says Stamp products with this challenge!

Wendy from Dabble (Kinda) Doday is joining us for the month of January. She is a wonderful mixed media artist and we are so happy to have her with us - welcome Wendy!

The beginning of the year is often a time we look back at the past year and our lives. This got me thinking about how quickly our lives change from child to adult, and how we bring some friends with us as we journey through our lives. Maybe you have a childhood friend (or sibling) that you are still besties with, that person you always look forward to being together with and having a chance to catch up. I was thinking of these ideas as I worked in my journal.

Time Passages

I started with a large background stamp and gray ink, and just pressed the stamp down in random areas.

I like how I've left some white space here.

Next, I went in with black ink and some snowflakes.

You can see how the pattern is starting to fill in.

First layer of color with blues...

second layer with purples...

I like the bright, bold colors, but at this point I was wishing I had left more of my stamped background showing. Does this ever happen to you?

I decided to go ahead with it and spritz with fuchsia and wipe back some of it using the stencil. I also sprayed through the stencil on the right page.  I ended up trying to wipe back a lot of color with water and a baby wipe. It kind of worked.

I wanted to lighten my design up, so went in with the mark making stamps and paint, then embossed some more snowflakes in white. I hand lettered my title "Time Passages" and added the girls and women.

Snowy night in January are a great time to sit back and reminisce about your life, and the friends who share this journey with you. I am so thankful for my friends!

Are you ready to use something new and join us this week? We would love to see you use your Simon Says Stamp products if you have any! One lucky person will be drawn at random for a $50 shopping voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp!

  2. I love that color combo! Been there, done that on covering up too much of something... stamping over top is a great 'fix' and seeing the bit of the background with the top white snowflakes gives it depth! This is a wonderful idea for real-life pics over time, too - thanks for the inspiration!
