This week the challenge is: THINK PINK - Breast Cancer Awareness

I was inspired by the bright, colorful work of Dyan Reavely, as well as her quirky approach, to create my art journal page. I've tucked in a note of remembrance to women in my life who have had breast cancer. Some have lost the fight, and some are still working to overcome their cancer.

This is a disease that affects so many women that we know, including my Mom who passed away quite a few years ago. Friends and colleagues have been affected. It is so important to self check and get a yearly mammogram. Please take care of yourself!

For many years, I worked with my teachers union to organize a breast cancer walk in our little town.

First step was stamping the background text. Next, I stenciled with pink paint over it I decided The pink did not show up well enough, so mixed it with white gouache, and stenciled again.

I went over my page with Green Gold watercolor. The paint acts as a resist, and I just did a quick wipe over the stenciled area to clean it up.

Then I decided the pink did't stand out enough, so went back with the stencil and a pink acrylic marker, to go over some of the design.

I had a little envelope from Simon, so ink smooshed it with pink, then stenciled over it with the same.

I hand lettered on the envelope, and added some hand painted paper to the flap. I fussy cut two flowers from the hand painted papers.

Details...

I tucked a little not inside in memory of family and friends...

I felt I needed to pop the flowers, so sent around them with white paint.

Final finishing touch was to draw scribbly lines around the page to frame it. Oops, I forgot, I also added white splatter.

    1. Thank you Anna0Karin. I don't think I really stopped to think about this as a whole until I made this page. Art journaling sparks thoughts and memories for sure. Take care my friend, Maura
