Lots Of Layers

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  SUMMER SUN Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: LOTS OF LAYERS

I created a little folio book to keep track of your summer reads, or to keep track of the books you want to read. I thought it would make a fun gift for an avid reader.

REMEMBER THIS STORY

I began with a collage layer using Tim Holtz Archives tissue paper. Next up, some ink smooshing with Simon's Ocean ink.

I added a second layer of ink smooshing with Simon's Mocha ink.

Next up, a painty layer....I used Simon Says Stamp's In the Round stencil with the Tangerine paint. Then, I smudged white paint over some areas. I am always inspired by teamie Andrea's excellent use of white paint on her makes.

Then, it was a matter of placing the accordion book and holder with some tags into place.

I added a tiny clothespin and the word KNOW to the accordion book section.

An assortment of tags for more jotting space...

The accordion fold book for lots of notes...

Back cover...

Front cover...

I added the chipboard words and letters for READ, some washi tape  and a hand dyed ribbon all nicely grunged up..

Transport It

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  LET'S PAINT  Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

Many thanks to Thom for sharing is wonderful creations with us this month. Definitely looking forward to more, Thom!

This week the challenge is: TRANSPORT IT

I am taking a different approach to transport. I am thinking of all the cards I make that get transported through the mail, so to represent that, I've created an altered envelope. A very special card could fit inside, or it is sturdy enough to hold chipboard or embellishments.

I began by deconstructing the envelope. Then, I sued this as a template to cut out my patterned paper.

Once I taped the paper in place, I scored the envelope again.

THEN, I messed up big time! I attached my second sheet of patterned paper onto the other patterned paper, not on the envelope where it was supposed to go. Needless to say, trying to pull it back off, I ripped a lot of the pretty paper. So, to try to fix it, I smooshed some ink over the biggest parts.

A bit of collage for the front...

...and a bit for the back...

Detail...

I stamped "Just for you" and added a heart and "stamp" to the front.

Just for You envelope, ready to be filled with something special and transported to you!

SASPC: Grand Finale

Hello steampunk friends! Welcome back to our challenge at Sandee and Amelie's Steampunk Challenges, where we are all about steampunk and industrial mixed media. Once again, this will be a two month challenge, and you can enter up to five times.

This is a bittersweet moment, as this will be our final challenge. We have been running these challenges since 2013, and I have been honored to be a part of this as a player, guest designer, and team member. What an amazing journey across the steampunk universe this has been! We invite you to be part of our Grand Finale and celebrate with us in our final act.

I wanted to create something extra special for our final challenge, and when a friend gave me this bottle to alter, I knew I had my project.

I think we are often jealous of those who can fly freely...birds, butterflies, angels...and wonder what it would be like to soar across the sky. Do you every imagine yourself flying high above the earth? These were my thoughts as I read the words on the bottle.

I also imagined this bottle as a treasure discovered in the depths of the ocean and brought to light...covered with crusty barnacles and rusted. Let your imagination soar and come join us!

I began my project by pouring fluid acrylic paint inside the bottle and swirling it around. I repeatedly swirled the paint as it dried (and it took a very long time). I like how the light comes through it.  Then, I started to adhere Boozybear chipboard pieces to the surface with heavy gel. After adding many layers of chipboard, gears, bubbles, etc. I was happy with the way it looked. Once dry, I dribbled some paint down it, then added detail with waxes.

Lots and lots of rusty, crusty details...

This was a joy to create, and I am so happy to share it with you as my final project. I wanted something special to inspire you.

I will be looking forward to seeing the creations you share with us in the challenge, and wish you an amazing creative journey forward! Keep those cogs and gears of creativity turning!

Hugs, Maura

We are so grateful to our sponsors, Glenda at Boozybear chipboard and DecoArt, especially through these past difficult months. Many, many thanks!!
