Add Some Texture

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Christmas Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Gitta Roolf as our guest designer for the month of October!

We are showcasing the amazing products of Katzelkraft this week!

This week the challenge is: ADD SOME TEXTURE

A WALK IN THE FOREST

Fantastic Fungi are all around us! Take a walk in the woods, check along the stream banks, look in your yard after the rains, and I bet you can spot some mushrooms in all their myriad of colors, shapes and sizes. The world of fungus is amazing, and if you are interested in learning more, there is a great documentary on Netflix called "Fantastic Fungi."

Isn't this a fabulous stamp set from Katzelkraft? I love the beautiful details on the mushrooms and the variety of them to work with.

I headed to my 8x8 journal and began with a layer of transparent texture paste. Apply with a palette knife through a stencil and let dry. I'm using leaves in my background for the nature theme of this page.

Once the texture page is fully dry, apply inks. I applied the ink with the round mini blender tool, beginning with warm colors and leaving open space for more color.

Next up, a bit of purple...

...then blue...

Rusty Hinge next...

And finally, I blended ground espresso over the page, wiping back over the leaves.

I was aiming for a fall feel with the color. I like how hints of the underlying colors come through.

I stamped lots of images onto watercolor paper with Simon's Black dye ink and let it dry thoroughly before using the watercolors.

Once dry, it's time to fussy cut all the images out.

Believe it or not, one of the hardest steps is figuring out the layout. When you have so many wonderful images to work with, it's a challenge getting it all to balance. I popped the fungi up and glued the words on.

Details...

Texture and dimension are achieved with texture paste, color layering and 3D foam.

On your next walk in the forest, keep your eyes open for some fantastic fungi!

Shake It Up With Steampunk!

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Light Up the New Year! Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: SHAKE IT UP!

I created a steampunk style undersea tag with mechanical fish, portholes and cogs and gears. In the steampunk world of opposites, I am combining biological and mechanical with the fish

I began by collaging the tag with Tim Holtz collage paper.

Once that dried, I added splats of paint, blended, wiped back, added some more, repeated,  until I was happy with the background.

I stamped and colored several mechanical fish with Scribble Sticks. A tip I learned from Dina Wakley is to dip the stick into water, then color with it - it acts more like watercolor that way.

Once dry, I fussy cut the fish out with Simon Says Stamp's fun new detail scissors.

I figured out the placement for the fish...

Added the gauges and words...

Then, I added gears, cogs and Simon's Seaglass sequins onto the gauges, then glued the shaker pouch onto the tag.

Lots of details...

My attempt to show how it shakes...

I love how steampunk lets my imagination run wild. I'm thinking of mechanical fish under the ocean, with portholes and gauges to run the undersea craft to see this amazing other world.

Bright and Cheerful with Katzelkraft

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Up in the Air  Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too

This week the challenge is: Bright and Cheerful

We are spotlighting the fabulous products from Katzelkraft this week!

Please join me in welcoming back Alison Bomber as our guest designer this month!  We love the wonderful creative style Alison shares.

My sister's dog, Bella, just graduated from dog obedience training (with a "needs to practice", LOL) so I thought I would make Bella a card to congratulate her and my sister.  She is a bit of a mischief maker and has learned to take things off the counters and get in areas she shouldn't, but we love her! Sometimes when I see her in the sunshine, she looks almost purple to me. So, Congratulations Bella from your Auntie Maura!

BE BRAVE!

I have to keep my makes fairly simple while my eye continues to heal, but I can sure have some fun with color, and Simon's Pawsitively Saturated inks are great for this.

I taped the stencil down over the slimline card onto my media mat and chose my colors.

Simon's blending brushes work beautifully for the stenciling, I may just have to buy the whole set one of these days.

A lovely blend of bright and cheerful colors...

I stamped Booly from Katselkraft onto heavy stock paper, and used Tombow markers and a water brush to color her. To make the dog more feminine, I found a flower gem in my stash and attached that to her pink bowler hat. Aww, look at those big eyes!

I had to read this quote from Katselkraft a couple of times to get it, but it does seem to fit perfectly here. And, I can definitely apply it to myself too...for example, when I learn a new art technique,, at first it is not good enough for me, but as I practice, I improve.

I layered the quote on bright cardstock, and popped the pup up a bit on the card. Now all that is left is to write my note to Bella!
