Rainbow Tag Book

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  THANKS/THANKSGIVING Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: TAG IT!

I had fun creating a rainbow tag book full of bright colors and bold designs. I've used a number of Darkroom Door stamps in honor of Rachel Greig, who sadly passed away this August...she is deeply missed in our creative community.

I used my lovely Pawsitively Saturated Inks from Simon Says Stamp in a rainbow of colors.

I love these funky tags from Studio Light, and ink smooshed each side with a color.

Then, I stamped the background of each tag in the same color to get a tone on tone design.

For my cover tag, I inked the stamp up with cool colors, then warm colors and stamped it onto the natural tag.

I cut some additional tiny tags, colored them with ink smooshing, and stamped the background in black ink.

Meanwhile, I stamped flowers on watercolor paper and blended the inks over the stamped image. These small blending brushes are a favorite of mine, as well as this cool holder fro them, all from Simon Says Stamp.

Add a bit of gold with a pen...then fussy cut them out.

On the cover, I put cool tags on the warm color background and added a matching flower.

And warm tags on the cool background...

I added some Big Chat words from Tim Holtz, so my cover would read " create dreams from your heart."

My rainbow tag book filled with inspiring quotes and tied together with some hand dyed ribbons.

I've flipped through each of the tags so you can see them individually.

I hope I've inspired you with my tag book! Make some tags of your own and share them with us this week!

Sun, Moon and Stars

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Watercolor Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

A big shout out to Cassie Lynch, our guest designer for May! Your makes were amazing, and I always look forward to seeing what you are creating.

This week the challenge is: SUN, MOON AND STARS

I headed to my art journal to create a space page full of planets, stars, the moon, nebulas, Oort clouds...

I began with a sheet of watercolor paper. Brush on a layer of water, then drop the watercolors onto the wet page. Use a mix of colors and allow them to flow. While the page is wet, splatter on a mix of water with dish soap to get the "cloud" look. It is amazing how it spreads out!

Once dry, I splattered on white acrylic ink and gold gouache for the stars.

I blended a bit of the gold into the clouds...

Meanwhile I used the moon mask and then fussy cut it out, so it's a bit wonky.

Simon's Space Journey dies are perfect for a trip into the universe.

And, this saying from Darkroom Door fits in so well.

I love how my watercolor background turned out for the art journal page.

Friendship

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Easter/Spring Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

It's been wonderful having Pauline C. with us this month. I am sure you have enjoyed her wonderful makes as much as I have!

This week the challenge is: STENCIL IT!

I love spending time with my friends, and I know from my Mom's and Mother in law's stories, that they did too. I decided to name the three friends in the photo for my mom, Dorothy, her cousin and best friend, Betty, and my MIL Mary Ellen. Friendships connect us across the globe and through time.

I love these fun tags from Studio Light! I added a bit of washi tape, and blended inks across the tag with Simon's small blending brushes (another fave!)

I used some washi tape from my stash, and decided to color some in with scribble sticks to tie it into the background.

Meanwhile, I had used a palette knife and gloss transparent texture paste with the friendship stencil from Darkroom Door.. I set it aside to dry while working on the tag. Now that it was dry, I blended my inks across the page and added in some Citrine and Grapefruit for contrast. I wiped it back with a wipe to make the words more visible.

I added a bit more color with scribble sticks, and then put the pieces together.

Tim Holtz snapshot paired with a Sharp Tongue quote from AALL and Create - ""Life is short.. Smile while you still have your teeth." Ha, ha - we don't think of that when we are young, do we?

This brought back some good memories of women in my family and spring with the colors. I do love to use stencils to add another element to my work, and I must admit, I have quite a collection. I think stencils are one of my favorite tools to add that little bit extra to my creations. Are you a stencil fan too?   Come join us this week and pull your stencils out.
