Wonderful Watercolor!

Hello Monday, and welcome!!

From using distress ink to blend to watercolor markers, spray inks like dylusions to a field watercolor set, and prima pencils to gelatos – watercolor and watercolor like effects are everywhere these days! This week we encourage you to be inspired by watercolors (faux or the real deal), products, the beautiful heavy weight watercolor paper, or a technique involving water and get creative!

I will admit when I was a kid, I sketched and drew all the time, but somewhere over the years I lost that. I am so glad I found it again, and started practicing my drawing again this year. I was inspired to do it by the 100 Day Project, where I tried to sketch every day. I also began to use watercolors more and more.

So, what I am trying to say if you are thinking, I can't do this, I want to say YOU CAN! Because that is right where I was not so long ago. So pull out your pencils and paints and do some doodling today!

If you have been following the blog, I've shared that recently I had the opportunity to travel in France (which was fantastic!). One of my goals was to bring my watercolor journal and sketch and paint while I was there. I did...some...just not as much as I had hoped to do. I really enjoyed sitting outdoors and sketching and painting what I saw...in the moment!

I have my photos to use in continuing my sketching, and I think that will be a great project for winter.

I started by sketching my scene lightly in pencil. Next, I added the water colors (including some Winsor Newton colors) and graphite pencil - did you know you can use a water soluble one, and get fantastic shading? I used it on the window sketch, and I just love what I can do with it.

Once my paper was dry, I went back in with my Pitt Pens (oh yes, a definite favorite of mine!) and doodled away. If you look closely, you can see I did not worry about straight lines or being too precise.

I hope you've enjoyed this little peek into my sketch book, and got inspired to try it yourself!

Now, it's time for you to get your apron on, your brushes, and watercolors, or anything related, and join us in this wonderful watercolor challenge! I am looking forward to seeing your creation this week!

  6. Wow! How would it be to go to France and then be able to watercolor about it? You did an awesome job here and the scene really comes to life. I like the airiness of your lines and how the sketches look so effortless. Wonderful work!

  11. These are gorgeous!! Love the look of both sketches and I am sure looking at them makes you remember the precise place where you were and lots of other details. I try to always carry a sketch book around with me, for whenever there is a moment over. It is fun.
