Hello friends! It's Monday and you know that means a new challenge! This week, we are going to the movies and would love to see how you interpret our challenge. We are showcasing Spellbinders Products this week, and if you have them, we would love to see them!
I am a Sci-Fi fan, both books and movies, so I really wanted to choose a movie in this genre, and since I saw The Martian not too long ago, this was the winner. Heck, I get to make the Red planet, so why not?
Have you heard about the earth-like planet scientists have found in our nearest star system - Apha Centauri, only 4.2 light years away? After years of teaching Earth Science, this kind of news makes me giddy!
So yes! Let's head out into space for my movie!!
A lot of paints, stenciling and die cuts went in to create this art journal page. I really like what Seth Apter comes up with and Spellbinders must too! I also had some older stencils of his from Stencil Girl that really fit this movie.
Forget TIME...Past, Present, Future...I mean really, can you imagine being marooned on a planet like Mars? Time would be both critical and irrelevant. The scientist in me really liked how Mark Watney, the American astronaut in the movie had to problem solve and invent in order to survive.
I was trying to show some of the areas of Mars that to me look like they had running water (stencil), and then wanted some craters and more white, so out came the distress crayon with a stencil. I heated them to make them more 3D and then some distress ink so it wouldn't be too white. Made the lovely dark area of space, and stamped and splattered into that.
Added the movie title...and just had to add the new Triplex die too!
I was trying to create the look of a rocket leaving Mars with Seth's Drip Drop and Pocket Watch dies and Turnaround circles. Can you imagine being on the surface of Mars, and seeing the ship leaving, and knowing you are totally alone?
So what's your favorite movie or genre? Get out your crafty supplies and create something for our challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing how you look at the movies!
