Simon Says: Splash it On!

Hello Monday! Welcome friends to a brand new challenge this week - Splash it On! We are all about water, using water, watercolors...so splash it on and share with us!

I chose to play with water in my big art journal this week, and have been waiting for the chance to use my new sea turtle stencil from Stencil Girl.

To start my pages, I decided to use this page in my art journal I had started long ago and finally finish it. Lots of layered paint, stencils where I rubbed the paint out, and lovely drips where I thinned the paint with water and dripped it down.

If you are stuck on inspiration, sometimes it helps to just create some backgrounds in your art journal, play and have fun...then they are there when you need to pull something out!

I experimented with mixing a bit of Dylusions spray with texture paste to get the green for the sea turtles, rather than going in and painting it once it had dried. I only added a few drops which was plenty, I don't think you would want to add much liquid or it would become too "soupy."

Two sea turtles done with the texture paste and strips of Media Tape I tore and added to the plant stencils at the bottom.

Colored up the strips with a few Distress Crayons.

Stenciled in some bubbles with the Simon Says Stamp Ring Cluster and Turquoise.

I also used texture paste and the Tim Holtz Splash layering stencil at the top of the pages. Once dried, I colored them with the distress crayons, and then added Inka Gold to that area and the turtles.  It's easy enough to rub in with your fingers, but a sponge could be used also.

"every day is a chance to change your life" - I came across this quote (unknown) and loved the positive message.

Working at my desk and adding in the finishing touches - white pen around the letters to "pop" them, a sprinkle of 28 Lilac Lane Rainbow Unicorn sequins, and outlining the turtles with a graphite pencil, then going in with a brush and some water.

This week we celebrate Earth Day, and I love that our theme this week is water, since most of the Earth is covered with it. I've been thinking a lot about the Earth lately and that we share it with so many unique and diverse forms of life...such as the sea turtles...

...and going along with those thoughts, I wanted a positive and hopeful message, because each day we do make choices that have an impact on ourselves and all species we share this planet with.

Happy Earth Day!

Now it's your turn to splash in the waters of creativity! I hope I've inspired you, and you are ready to join the challenge and share your work! I am looking forward to it.
