Greetings Steampunk fans! Welcome to round two of inspiration for Sandee and amelie's Steampunk Challenges! Hope you are enjoying a beautiful May, and are ready to join us in creating something in a steampunk or industrial style.
When I first heard this song, it just caught my imagination and became my inspiration for this month's project - Heart Up In The Sky by Old Crow Medicine Show. If you would like to listen to it, here is the link. Of course, I thought of a steampunk heart up in the sky!
I started with a piece of watercolor paper and marked off the rectangles for the four ATC's, so I could get the placement of the heart in between all four on the other side.
I've been doing a lot of mark making lately and since I had just bought a box of Q-tips, I found myself wondering what they could do..I like the funky dots they make.
DecoArt Fluid Acrylics in Pyrrole Red for the heart, and Cobalt Teal Hue and Cerulean Blue to represent the sky. I started with a quick undercoat to begin the layout.
Time for a bit of stenciling with Titan Buff and the DecoArt Whirlpool stencil (one of my faves)>
Now for a bit more with Snake's Web and some Prussian Blue Hue.
Some Carbon Black with my favorite mark making tool.
Time to stamp the steampunk heart onto the ATC area - Carabelle Studios "The heart has it's reasons" stamp. I stamped the Flying Man (Deep Red) and Fly the World (B Line Designs), then some gears from KaiserCraft's Time Machine set, onto the folder section.
I used my white pen to highlight certain areas and make them pop.
I decided to go in and smudge a few areas.
Time to cut it apart into the ATC's and folder.
Let's add some more marks with DecoArt Ice Blue Metallic.
I wanted to add a word on each section and used Andy Skinner's Skulldoggery and Unexplained stamp sets. A touch of Carbon Black Mister (DecoArt) adds a nice touch.
I thought I was done and headed off to sleep. But as often happens, my brain came up with some more ideas! So, out came some Prima canvas gears and snippets from Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe. A couple of eyes, because we need some people looking up into the sky to see that heart up there, and of course, a crow image!
A little folder to hold the ATC's in, along with the song and music group. On the inside, I filled it with lyrics from the song.
A couple views of the complete project...
I was inspired to work on a small scale from a recent class I took with Kasia Avery in Wanderlust 2017, and it was a lot of fun.
Do you ever get a song stuck in your head? When it happens to me, it starts singing in my head when I wake up in the night. Maybe that is its way of telling me I need to create something with it!
Think about what you get inspired by, and figure out a way to do it in a steampunk/industrial style and join us this month! I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks so much to our sponsors who keep the gears turning at SASPC!
