Welcome Monday friends! I hope you have had a creative week and are ready for our new challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge - DISTRESS IT! Just think of all the products and ways you can take this - from inks, to paints, to sandpaper! It will be fun to see what you create!
The Earth has music for those who listen
Have you ever heard the music of the Earth? I've read about scientists who have recorded the sounds the planet makes, and musicians who interpret it. I believe we also hear it in the wind, birdsong, insects buzzing, water burbling and so much more that surrounds us - sometimes we just have to be quiet enough to listen.
I decided to "christen" a new from my stash (Prima Vintage Vanity Art Journal) art journal this week with Distress Oxides and embossing. I started off thinking I was going to make a card with this, and by the time I finished, I wanted to put it into a more permanent place.
First step - heat embossing with Simon's clear embossing powder and Distress embossing ink. I heated each image separately.
Time to add color with Distress Oxides. I wiped them onto my craft mat, spritzed with water and laid the card stock into it. I heated it a bit, then used a baby wipe to wipe it down.
Then, I took a Peeled Paint re-inker and did the same thing.
Repeated the step with orange and pinks...
I like the texture that comes through with the Distressed Watercolor cardstock. These Carabelle Studio stamps by Birgit Koopsen work beautifully with the distress inks.
I decided I wanted a bit more of a pop of color, so used a water brush and Dylusions sprays to brighten up a few spots.
I stenciled in some music in the background with the walnut stain. I really like how the oxide inks can fade into the background.
Time to stamp the saying with my MISTI. I wanted to be sure I had the words straight, so laid a piece of scrap over where I wanted to stamp to test it out first, removed that and stamped onto my piece. It's kind of like that measure twice, cut once saying...and I didn't want to mess it up at the end.
details, details....
I like the way the clear embossing powder kept the white paper showing through.
I hope I've inspired you to join us in our Distress It challenge this week! I'm looking forward to seeing your creative take on it!
