Live for the Moment

It's Monday, my friends, and that means a brand new challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week our theme is: Grunge It Up! Just let your inner grunge free and come play with us! Thanks to all who shared their awesome projects with us last week in our Take Note challenge. Looking forward to seeing how you interpret our newest challenge.

Grunge for me meant time to play it up with a steampunk twist! I had fun creating this little home decor canvas.

 Live for the Moment

I began with a small burlap canvas and randomly added some black gesso over it with a palette knife.

Next, I dabbed the rest of the canvas with some Mermaid Lagoon, and when that dried added a layer of rust with Viva Rusty Paper paint. I also added the rust paint to my piece of cardboard.

Next, I stenciled the canvas with the gears and turquoise paint as well as painting the honeycomb , and used the mini stencil and Caribbean Sea on the cardboard. I love the contrast between the bright blues and deep browns!
I later went in with the gear stencil again and outlined the area with a white paint pen.

I added the layers of rust paste to the cardboard, going from the darkest to lightest color.

While that dried, I stamped my image and words, using the Stamp Platform to get a crisp image.

Color with Distress Oxides, mist with water, rip the edges and age with the brown.

Now comes the fun part, rusting up some gears I had in my stash, and laying out my idea.

How about a bit of turquoise honeycomb here?

I like mixing and layering cogs and gears around the image.

details, details...

Final step, I came up with the idea to add a big gear coming off the canvas, and decided to add it to the side.

Are you inspired to Grunge it Up?  I hope you will join us in this week's challenge and share your inner creative grunge. One lucky participant will win a $50 shopping voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp!
