Life on the Ocean Waves

Hello Monday, my creative friends! Welcome back for another challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - LIFE ON THE OCEAN WAVES. Does the month of July find you heading to the beach, dreaming about the beach, and thinking about the lure of the ocean? I know it has me in its grip.

I began with a mix of blues and greens on two sheets of watercolor paper. On the left you can see what it looks like after I smudge and blend with a baby wipe.

Next step is to add waves with a stencil. I used a mix of blues and greens, and some white for the tops of the waves.

I added another layer of wave design with turquoise in a random fashion.

Next, I cut my papers in half lengthwise and folded them in half. I stamped sea life images in grey ink on all pieces.

Next, I stamped the Koi fish from Nicole Wright onto watercolor paper and used a mix of yellow, orange, red, and pink. I let these totally dry while I painted the lighthouse scene, then cut them out.
Note: Yes, I know Koi are not a saltwater fish, although they can survive for a period of time in salt water (for example, in the winter you can add salt to your Koi pond so it doesn't freeze and they will survive according to an article I read). But, I took artistic license and added them to my ocean pages, because they are so big and bold, and the colors are a perfect contrast to all those blues.

Here you can see the gorgeous contrasting colors...

I placed the lighthouse scene in-between two pages, and added Aqua Splash embossing powder, the Deep Sea, by using a bit of bubble wrap with embossing ink on it. You might have noticed I added washi tape to hold the pieces and at the bends.

When I put my pages together in an accordion fashion, I created pockets, so both sides have the designs. I wrote little quotes and thoughts about the beach and ocean, tied on some Sari ribbon, and tucked them into the pockets.

Pages...

I have a few bubbles added here and there, and added a clip with a win loop and some buttons to hold the accordion book closed.

If you love the ocean, the sound of the waves, the color of the water, playing on the beach...this week's challenge is just for you! I hope you will play along with us this week, I'm looking forward to seeing what you create! Once lucky participant will win a $50 shopping voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp!

  2. What a great structure, great art, and a bonus to see how well-loved your Dina paints are!! I think this is such an inspiring way to capture the essence of the ocean. I, too, am a beach-lover and this brought to mind everything I love about that world!

  3. Such a gorgeous little book Maura! I love that you made pockets and filled them with tags. It reminded me of a little book I made years ago that I had forgotten. I have to do an accordion style book soon again. I love the blues and all the textures and of course the fish. Hugs!

  4. I LOVE your accordion booklet! The color scheme of your layers of paint gave it such depth, and the idea of adding quotes on tags make it a little treasure to keep forever. Thanks for your visit to my blog and blessings!
