Let's Make Some ATC's! (Artist Trading Cards)

Hello Monday, my friends! Welcome back to another fun week with us at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Our theme this week is ATC's, or Artist Trading Cards. An ATC is a small art piece that is  2.5" x 3.5" or 64mm x 89mm. People often like to make and trade them with other creatives. Why not get a group of friends together this week and make and share some ATC's, and be sure to share with us also!

UPDATE: Thrilled to have my DREAM BIG ATC selected as a Splitcoaststampers Favorite for the week of August 24!!

Kid's Summer Vacation challenge is in full swing. Get your kiddos, grands, nieces, nephews, neighbors together for some crafting fun this month, and share their work with this challenge!

I made a quartet of patchwork artist trading cards this week.

One of my new favorite paper lines is Stamperia. This week, I am using their Patchwork set. I covered both sides of cardboard from a mailing envelope that I cut to size. I was going to make 2, then 3, and somehow it ended up with 4.

I used two different Simon stencils and the Transparent Gloss Texture paste. It took a long time to dry because of the humidity.

Once dry, I blended the Fossilized Amber over the cards to deepen the yellows and make the texture stand out. Then, I edged the cards with Ground Espresso.

Meanwhile, I cut out several shapes from the papers, and adhered them to more cardboard with gel medium. Once dry, I cut each one out.

Added a distressed edge...

Then, the fun began with this faux encaustic technique. Seth Apter and Emerald Creek came up with an awesome embossing powder - Vintage Beeswax! I did two layers to build it up and make it look more like a layer of wax, but without all the fuss.

With a cup of TEA in your hand, anything is possible

  1. I just discovered Stamperia paper and think it's wonderful (I purchased Oriental Garden). You did a terrific job using it for these ATC's! I didn't know about the embossing wax, it sounds interesting, can you tell me if it has a matte or shiny finish? Thanks for sharing, Maura!

    1. Hi Beulah Bee! Thanks so much for your kind words, they mean a lot! I will have to check out the Oriental Garden, thanks! The Seth Apter Vintage Beeswax has a shiny finish, but you can add a couple of layers of matte medium over it to get a matte finish to it. The embossing powder works best if you do a couple of layers of it. Hope you try it out, let me know what you think. Maura

  2. I find these Stamperia patchwork papers so enchanting (I bought some even though it's miles from my usual creative zone... don't know what I'll do with it besides stroke it yet!) so I'm delighted by this set of ATCs. Charming whimsical images, and I love how you've given them that extra pop of dimension. Great sheen from Seth's beeswax powder too.

    1. Thanks Alison! I have to say, these papers are not my usual choice, but I just couldn't pass them by, LOL! Seth's beeswax is so cool! Maura

  3. Love this beautiful patchwork paper and the fabulous embellishments on the ATCs, Maura. Such a stunning creation! :)

    1. Thanks so much Meihsia! I had fun making them! Maura

  4. I love the patchwork pad too, but I'm still in the stroking phase at the minute! The oriental garden looks amazing. Have to mention the 'c' word now, the make a wish pad is a great one for patchwork fans x

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, it is so appreciated, and I love reading each and every one!
