Frame It!

Hello Monday my friends! Welcome to a new week and a new challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - FRAME IT. Frame your work in some way and join us this week!

UPDATE: THRILLED AND HONORED TO HAVE THIS SELECTED AS A FAVORITE OF THE WEEK AT SPLITCOASTSTAMPERS!!!

I have always been fascinated by the imagination of writer Jules Verne, a French novelist in the 1800's, and the worlds he created. The Time Machine is a favorite, you can read the book or watch the movie to see what I mean. I think I'm a bit obsessed with the idea of time travel, and love to read stories about it. So, it was fun this week to make my own ...

TIME MACHINE

I started with a piece of cardboard and adhered a sheet from the Stamperia Mechanical Seaworld papers. Then I edged it with Simon's black ink.

Next step is to add some texture with Stamperia's Steampunk stencil with texture paste.

As that dried, I stamped my images and smudged some Liquid Acrylic over them to make them sepia. I didn't like how I lost the Professor's detail, so smudged a light section and re-stamped him. I'd never used the liquid acrylic before, so this was an experiment. I think I could have achieved a similar look using distress ink.

I rubbed several Art Alchemy waxes over the texture paste.

Oh, yeah...look at that gorgeous texture!

Playing and experimenting some more with the liquid acrylics and spritzing water on them and letting them drip. Then a bit more wax, and look what we have! I also used the crop a dile to add some eyelets for hanging this to the flip frame.

Making the time machine...

Couldn't resist that propeller top hat!

Lots of gears and a steampunk vibe...I decided to just use the words Time Machine from the Darkroom Door quote (even though I wanted to use it all).

I've hung the finished piece in the Flip Frame. I love this frame and have made a variety of pieces to hang in it and display.

What a fun week for me! I got to play with one of my favorite genres - steampunk, and let my imagination travel through time...step aside Jules Verne! Who knows, maybe one day time travel will be possible? I hope you've enjoyed my project this week, and will join us. Our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp offer a $50 voucher each week to one lucky participant! We also love highlighting our favorite entries!
