Ice Cold

Hello Monday, my friends! We have a new challenge for you at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - ICE COLD. Perfect for those of us in the northern hemisphere as the winter solstice approaches...or maybe you are thinking of an ice cold drink...we would love to see how you interpret  our theme!

I thought this challenge would be the perfect opportunity to explore the Arctic and Antarctic, two increasingly fragile areas on our Earth. There is a spectacular beauty to these regions (that I have only seen in photos and videos) and the amazing animals that call this home. So, I went into my art journal to explore.

I began in the Dina Wakley Media Journal with watercolors. First, I spritzed the pages with water, then dragged color across the page with a large brush.  Sodalite Genuine on the bottom, and a mix of Phthalo Turquoise and Quinacridone Violet on top ( a bit of a Northern Lights appeal).

Then, I started with the Stamperia Arctic/Antarctic papers and chipboard. I stenciled on a compass rose and some designs from Stamperia's matching stencil.

I love all the papers in this set, and it was hard choosing which to use. The interactive bit happened all on its own, when the main piece didn't stick in place. As it popped back up, I thought, aha - make a flap! And, I had to make sure the constellation of the Southern Cross was on this star map - right behind the whale's tail.

I added in a mix of images to represent both the north and south poles - Polar bears in the Arctic and Penguins in the Antarctic. Aren't these images from Stamperia just gorgeous? A bit of stenciling, and chipboard, and it is done.

Arctic....Polar bears are such majestic animals (although I do not want to see one close up)

Antarctica...and yes, I do believe life is an expedition, a journey...

Icy blues, a bit of snow sprinkled on with Glossy Accents and Distress Rock Candy glitter.

I don't think this is what I envisioned when I began my pages, but I am really pleased with where they ended up....a delightfully ice cold vision of the poles of the Earth.

Are you ready for the ICE COLD challenge? I'm looking forward to seeing how you interpret this. Our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp are offering a $25 shopping voucher,  and we love to highlight our favorites!
