Have a Heart

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Fun With Foil  Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

What a treat it's been having Pauline with us this month! I've enjoyed your wonderful creative sense and look forward to more.

This week the challenge is: HAVE A HEART

How about a little Bot Love today?

I created this page in one of my many art journals.

I began with an ink smooshed background in pinks and red on watercolor paper. Once the ink dried, I splattered some water on it, waited a few seconds and lifted it with a paper towel.

I sprinkled a little Color Burst on a couple of areas, and spritzed a bit of water on it.

I really like this heart stamp from Picket Fence. It reminds me both of tree rings and a topographic map. I stamped it in Mocha ink, and added some dots all around the edge. I splattered some gold over the piece.

Meanwhile I stamped my bots, let the ink dry, then colored with watercolor.

I fussy cut them out, and popped them up. Now, there's love,  botology style!

I stamped a heart, colored it with ink, and fussy cut. Then I layered these together.

Bots...better together

Snail Time at the Beach

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Add Some Red, White and/or Blue Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: SUMMER SUN

I've been working on a watercolor book I started in Florida at an art retreat with Joanne Sharpe. This week's theme seemed like the perfect opportunity to add a scene to one of my pages. It's a day at the beach for the snails!

I painted the ocean scene with the sun on the horizon on heavy watercolor paper. I sketched a palm tree with watercolor, fussy cut it and added it to the beach scene.

Next I stamped and colored my images for the beach, as well as coloring the snails. I fussy cut the stamped images to use.

Then, I placed the beach huts towards the water's edge to create the illusion of them being in the background. I added the snails strolling across the beach with their umbrellas - you cet=rtainly don't want a snail to get a sunburn! I added an Adirondack chair too (more on that later).

These beach houses are just so darn cute from Creative Expressions. I colored them with Tombow markers.

I die cut the Simon Says Stamp Adirondack Chair, shaded the background piece a bit, and added a beach "towel" with Tim Holtz's Colorblock fabric.

These snails from AALL and Create are just the cutest. I thought it would be fun to have the snails strolling the beach with their umbrellas for a quirky vibe.

details...

It's a beautiful day at the beach for a snail gathering in the summer sun!  Hope you are all enjoying a lovely summer wherever you are!

Shake It Up With Steampunk!

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Light Up the New Year! Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: SHAKE IT UP!

I created a steampunk style undersea tag with mechanical fish, portholes and cogs and gears. In the steampunk world of opposites, I am combining biological and mechanical with the fish

I began by collaging the tag with Tim Holtz collage paper.

Once that dried, I added splats of paint, blended, wiped back, added some more, repeated,  until I was happy with the background.

I stamped and colored several mechanical fish with Scribble Sticks. A tip I learned from Dina Wakley is to dip the stick into water, then color with it - it acts more like watercolor that way.

Once dry, I fussy cut the fish out with Simon Says Stamp's fun new detail scissors.

I figured out the placement for the fish...

Added the gauges and words...

Then, I added gears, cogs and Simon's Seaglass sequins onto the gauges, then glued the shaker pouch onto the tag.

Lots of details...

My attempt to show how it shakes...

I love how steampunk lets my imagination run wild. I'm thinking of mechanical fish under the ocean, with portholes and gauges to run the undersea craft to see this amazing other world.
