Bright and Cheery

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the Fur or Feathers Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL

...a little bit wonderfully WEIRD...

Well, I do think that describes me quite well!

This turned out to be a make that had a mind of its own. I had an idea in my head and started with bright colors of paint that I smoothed out with a baby wipe after.

I was going for a rainbow look, so next I rubbed in my cool colors and blended with the baby wipe again. Once dry, I covered the page with clear gesso. Now, my idea was to cover this with black paint, then scrub back some areas to let the colors come through. So, I painted over most of it with the black, but I had unintentionally dried it, so the scrubbing idea was an epic fail. Or maybe glossy clear gesso or gel medium would have been a better choice. Always learning!

So, mu next idea was to cover part of the black with white, and work on the rainbow of colors again. As I ran the bottle around applying the paint, I noticed that I really liked how it made a frame. I decided to leave the frame and just fill in the center. Then, I played with adding dots of paint around the edge of the frame and really liked that look.

Once the background was dry, I rubbed in a rainbow of paint colors just using my fingers.

Now, it's time to stamp some images onto my rainbow. I thought the weird stamp was darn cute, and I often feel a bit wonderfully weird myself. Tracy Scott has some fun mark making stamps, and I added a few of those to my page.

I added a bit of detail with gold pen, and sprinkled on some Paper Artsy Green Man and Magenta Infusions. Spritz them with a bit of water, and pick up any extra with a paper towel.

Details...

I thought I was finished, but decided to smudge a bit of white around the figure to make her stand out a bit more.

I do love working with bright and cheerful colors, and had a lot of fun creating this page in my art journal. The make certainly had a mind of its own, but I really like where it took me.

Simon Says: Tie It Up

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the FUN WITH STENCILS Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: TIE IT UP! (Use ribbon or twine)

TRUST YOUR HEART - DANCE LIKE NOBODY'S WATCHING...

It all starts with some stamping...a fun stamp design from Lynne Perrella and my favorite black ink from Simon.

I hand lettered around the stamp with a black pen...

I decided to stencils dots around the edge of the design using Simon's Medium Dots stencil and texture paste. I'm mixing the Paper Artsy Infusions into the paste with a palette knife. Just remember, a small amount of powder goes a long ways!

I stenciled Golden Sands with the paste at the top, then worked into Orange County, finishing with Magenta. I discovered that it's rather hard to differentiate the colors once they were down, maybe due to the intensity of the powders. Let this dry completely.

Clean your stencils right away after using texture paste.

I wanted to add some Rusty Car Infusions, so spritzed the tag with water, then sprinkled some powder onto the tag. I wiped back with a baby wipe to let the dots show. I don't think I had thought ahead to how this would darken the tag, and I was disappointed that the color of the dots got lost.

Now it's time to TIE ON some hand dyed ribbon.

The hand dyed ribbon is a blend of Simon's Pawsitively Saturated Sweets and Citrine. inks.

I added the Tim Holtz Quote Chip "TRUST YOUR HEART" to the bottom of the tag.

Well, I thought I was finished with the tag, but as so happens with me from time to time, in the night I think of a way to change it up.

I decided to stamp the image again on watercolor paper, letter around the edge, color it a bit with markers, then fussy cut and pop it up. I really struggle to work monochromatically - I have this need to add color!

Spritz and Splatter

Hello Monday my friends! I hope this finds you well. Our challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is SPRITZ AND SPLATTER. We are also showcasing the wonderful line of Paper Artsy products.

Please join me in welcoming our guest designer for this month, Cath Wilson of Inky Fingers. She has a lot of beautiful cards and projects on her blog, and I am looking forward to working together this month. Welcome aboard, Cath!

I headed to my art journal with some fish and lots of fun shapes. I did not intentionally do this, but when I look at my pages, I see a huge fish underlying all these smaller fish, do you see it?

I started with two lighter colors on my black pages, and spread them with a brayer.

NOTE: the paint colors I am using are very similar to the ones I've listed in the supplies.

Stenciled on some big blue dots...

Next up, smaller dots...

Then bubbles...

I mixed these colors as I sponged the Waves stencil across the pages.

I stamped my images and colored them with Tombow markers, fussy cut them, and started to lay them out. I added in a bit of book paper to bring it all together.

Time for some splatter with Cloud 9, a bit of water and the splatter brush. Then I tried wiping the splatter brush across the background to create a stronger focal area. I like how it streaked the paint across the pages.

Final step was sprinkling on some Paper Artsy Infusions and spritzing with a mister. I let some of the excess drip down the side, trying to create a feeling of movement through the water. Final step was to draw a wave-like line across the base with Rosy metallic paint.
