Stencils at the Pumpkin Patch

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Add Some aText  Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: USE MORE THAN ONE STENCIL

Personally, I LOVE using stencils! The more the merrier in my art book. They are a wonderful tool for layering color and texture. I've used them on my tag background and the painted papersI  made. 

There's mischief in the pumpkin patch...black cats, witches and giant pumpkins! 

THE PUMPKIN PATCH

 

 I began by painting mixed media and book papers in oranges and greens.

Next, I used the same paints with several stencils and added random patterns.

I used Citrine ink and the Grid stencil on the tag background.

I decided one more stencil wouldn't hurt.

I sketched and cut my pumpkin out of the mixed media paper, and the strips and stem and leaves from the book paper. I doodled the pumpkin in black.

I doodled a bit of gold onto the leaf...

Then, I wanted to make some vines. I cut out a spiral and pulled it apart a bit to represent my vines.

What's a pumpkin patch without a witch>

Or a black cat...

I think it's time to head to the pumpkin patch to get my pumpkins

for this year!

Summertime Blues

 

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Make Your Own Background  Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

It's been fabulous having Thom Santilla with us this month, I am sure you have been enjoying his creative talent as much as I have! 

This week the challenge is: Summertime Blues

I went back to one of my favorite summer songs and set to work in my art journal. I found images to collage that evoke summertime for me...and the song.

 

I started the background with debit paper stamped with Simon's Old Letter stamp.  

 Next, I added images from Paper Artsy Printed Tissue, picking and choosing for my theme. 

Now, to smudge on some ink in blues and brown...then sprinkle with water drops and lift some of the ink. 

 

I added a faint bit of stenciling around the edge with the grid stencil.

 

Details...summer butterflies, games, collecting...

Mushroom Magic

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Monochrome Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: SPRITZ AND SPLATTER 

Mushroom Magic 

I am drawn to mushrooms for some reason. They grow in so many forms, sizes and colors, and are connected to each other underground. This seemed the perfect subject matter for this week's challenge. 

 

I began with a piece of scrap white, and stenciled mushrooms onto it with spray stains and stencil. 

While that dried, I cut out patterned papers to collage onto the mushroom pieces with collage medium. 

I added another layer with the printed tissue.  

I used a file to get the edges trimmed, and like the distressed look it gives also. Then, I added splatters of the glossy mediums.  

I debated with different ideas on how I wanted to use my mushrooms. I finally decided on a black canvas board  that I stenciled with the grid stencil and mica stain.  

I stamped a few butterflies to add... 

These words seemed perfect, and I stamped them on a kraft tag. 

 An odd number of elements in always a good choice, so I added three butterflies. 

I echoed the twine I added to the tag, by tying a bit around one mushroom. 

Lots of spritzing and splattering, even on the grasses.
