Altered Brush Project and Simon Says Stamp "messy" challenge

I had the opportunity to get together with some art friends for the day to play and alter a paint brush. What fun, as you shall see! I also thought this would be a good example of a messy project (although I will admit, most of mine are) to submit for the Simon Says challenge here.
Not sure which side I like better? Any thoughts?
So, if you know me and what I like to create, you saw it coming that I would choose a steampunk theme for my brush. Started with a bit of gesso on the brush...
Next, apply tissue paper with gel medium. I found a disposable plate worked great to hold it, so air could flow under also.
Layer on a lot of flat fussy cut elements.
More fussy cut elements, and I went over with gel medium as I went.
Now for the fun...adding in embellishments...flowers, gears, pocket watch, twine...
Love those flying pigs! Added distress ribbon I made awhile ago.
Layering it up with keys, gears, flowers, light bulb...
Feathers, butterflies, transparency head, watches, metal...lovin' this! I admit, I had a hard time stopping adding layers and embellishments, and may have overdone this one...time will tell I guess.
I wanted to share what each of us created with the same paintbrush. I love how unique they are, and how they reflect their creator.

What a great play day, and so much fun! Dig into the workbench and see if you can find a paintbrush to alter! Be sure to share with us if you do!

  1. Sorry I missed all the fun, it looks like everyone had a good time creating.

Also I just want to let you know I received the magazine I won from you both, I have gone thru it again and again. It has inspired me to redo my art room. I will post pics when I have completed it.
    Thank you both.
