Pirate Dream

Welcome to Monday! Gray days, snow, chilly weather getting you down? Well, I have a "cure" for that - a glimpse into a pirate's tropical dream full of color. Color can do amazing things to your psyche!

This week we are all about stenciling. There are so many fabulous stencils and techniques you can use with them. It's fun to spray, ink, paint, emboss and then see what you have created! Stencils are great for backgrounds or focal points, and you can even make your own stencil! We are looking forward to seeing what you will create.

We have had a long string of gray days where I live, so when I started to think about working in my art journal, I found myself pulling out the bright paints. I also knew I wanted to work with my N*Studio stamps and stencils by Nathalie Kahlbach.

So, let's dig in to my process.

First step, embossing paste and stencils to get some dimension on the page.

Next step, paint over the page with some lovely bright colors.

Stamp some random designs using paint, adding another layer.

Add another stencil layer with metallic inka gold.

Tone it down a bit with some white paint.

Brighten it up again with a layer of bright turquoise paint and stamps.

This background is making me happy!

I found some old Graphic 45 papers (On the Boardwalk and Tropical Travelogue) in my stash with these great vintage bathing beauties. I like that they are in sepia tones against the bright background - it makes for a good contrast. Add a parrot, pineapple, some feathers and a bit of shine and doodle, and this is when I started thinking of pirates, beaches and the tropics.

One bathing beauty just wasn't enough, and this mischievous girl looked like she needed wings. Is it a pirate queen and her fairy helper? Is it a roguish pirate captain's dream of the next port? Well, I am going to leave it up to your imagination.

I had so much fun layering stencils, stamps and paints creating this! I am looking forward to seeing what you create with your stencils. Be sure to share it with us and you might be the lucky winner of a $50 voucher from Simon Says Stamp!
