Take a Leap!

Happy Monday! Happy Leap Day! Woohoo, an extra day this year...make it special!

This week we are all about taking a leap for leap year. You might leap into something new that you have never tried before. Maybe you are leaping into a brand new area in your life...new relationship, new home, new car...whatever it is, celebrate it with us creatively.

So, I pondered this taking a leap, and at first thought I would make this all about trying a new technique or using a new product. But, I kept thinking of frogs, so I just had to play with that! I've been drawn to a new color combo lately - blues and oranges, so I "leapt" in that direction with my project.  I've also been flipping over my flip frame, so here we go...

I started out by cutting a piece of blackboard for my piece, then covered it with gesso, and stenciled with texture paste.   Stencils are some old ones I have by Balzer Designs - Mini Cornflowers and Mini Circle Explosion. I don't know why the white gesso turned pink? Maybe the black board has some color in it that reacted, I was surprised though.

Here is the new to me part of this - painting the resin frog. I started out with Lucky Clover.

Going along with my frog theme, I wanted to use Frogtape! How corny is that?!

Lots of paint play with the frog, and the board, some highlighting with Viva Decor, a bit of stamping trying out the Simon Says Stamp brand of ink for the very first time (High Dive), and I found out, I love this ink! Why haven't I tried it sooner?  Made the label with an old Tim Holtz stamp set called Saying Stuff. Ok, ready to put it all together!

While I was working on this, I started thinking about the fairy tale about the frog prince, so had to add the little stamped circle.

And, since every frog is not a prince, some just like to chase bugs and butterflies...

Did I mention how much I love this flip frame? I love that I can create a small mixed media piece, and frame it right away to enjoy.

Are you ready to leap into something new with us this week? I wish you a wonderful and creative extra "leap" day this year! I am looking forward to seeing how you interpret our theme this week.

Simon Says Stamp offers a generous $50 voucher each week, to one lucky participant.

  14. This is so clever and I love the story you tell with this project! And wow! What a totally brilliant sentiment about every frog NOT being a prince! Wish I would've known that little reality early-on in the dating years! This made me smile and I love the burst of freshness it brought to my blog-browsing! Well done!
