Show us your Metal!

Hello friends, it's Monday here and we are ready to play!

I love metal! I got totally inspired by this rusty pocket watch by Finnabair Mechanicals, and started creating off of this.

This challenge is easy - all you have to do is add a piece of metal on your creation!

I headed off in a steampunk direction with this challenge, metal often leads me there, and I earned some "metal" by trying something totally new to me - ice resin! Wow!

I saved a container from some Prima wood icons, and the first thing I did was paint it black and let it dry.

I figured it was time to try out my ice resins, and wow! am I glad I did, these are so cool!! I tried the ice enamel in the pocket watch, added old watch innards, and then filled in with the resin. In one of the boxes, I layered some gears, added resin and then some tiny micro beads. I set these aside and checked the drying time and when it said 3 days! I thought, whoa, I am NOT that patient!! Lucky for me mine was dry the following day.

I had a lot of fun finding things in my stash to add into the shadow box. As it evolved, I began to think of it as housing my every day treasures, little things you might find or see on a journey.

Details, details! I LOVE this new Stamp-N-Add Moth Wings from Prima with the metal body parts you can use (or you can stamp the insect body). I had some water color scraps from a previous project that worked beautifully with my colors. I added the micro beads and took apart some old jewelry to get the pearls.

My brain took me back and forth between treasures from the sea and the air, so I just decided to go with it! I had so much fun trying out some new techniques and working with new goodies, and it all started when I saw that rusty pocket watch.

Now it's your turn to show us your metal! I can't wait to see what you share, but just have fun playing.

It has been a joy to have Beulah Bee join us as guest designer this month, and share her awesome creativity with all of us! I am looking forward to more creative adventures from you!

  12. Wowzers! What a remarkable transformation of a boring box into a brilliant shadowbox!! I loved seeing each little detail and especially liked the vial and how you created a bubbly type of base for your fishes. Your mind just always seems to be in these cool mythical places that I want to travel and it translates beautifully into your art.
