Welcome to Monday and another challenge at Simon Says Stamp! This week our challenge is to use patterned paper in a project. I chose the lovely Graphic 45 Voyage Beneath the Sea set to use with my tag. I just love the imaginative and steampunk style of these papers!
I really had a lot of fun working on this tag. At first, all I knew was the paper I wanted to use, but just wasn't sure where I was headed. Then, I started thinking about the lost city of Atlantis and what it might be like to discover it - hence the deep sea diver. But I also thought about all of the unknown magical beauty that just might be hidden in the depths of the ocean, and these images work perfectly to show that.
I started off with stamping some images and blending distress inks into them.
Then, I inked the tag, wanting my lighter colors at the top, and the colors to deepen as we go down into the ocean depths.
Playing with my layout on the tag...a while back I was trying out some new products - Finnabair's rust pastes with Seth Apter's pocket watch die, and I immediately thought of using this. After all, there are a lot of rusty things in the ocean, like old shipwrecks. I wanted a little more dimension with the big image, so fussy cut another fish and layered it on.
I took this shot in the evening and like the dappled light effect - kind of like being underwater.
I just had to add a seahorse to this collage, and Tim Holtz's stamp is a favorite. I went over it with a bit of glitter using Wink of Stella. I also had a brainstorm to find my cheesecloth, color it with some ink, and add that - love it!
You can see how rusty and crusty the die is with the rust pastes.
details, details...don't the beads and sequins from 28 Lilac Lane add a beautiful touch?
I couldn't resist adding a purple bling to the fish's eye!
I really am curious about what is in the ocean and believe there is still a lot to discover. Who knows! Maybe the lost city of Atlantis really does exist? With the way the ocean levels change, I think it's possible!
If you are like me, I am sure you have plenty of patterned paper in your stash, so why not pull some out, do some creating, and join us in this week's challenge? I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!
