Hello Monday! Welcome back for a new challenge this week - Pets Corner! We all love our pets, right? or admire our friends' pets. Just think of all those crazy pet videos that pop up and make us giggle. Yes, so this week, we are all about the pets!
It has been an awesome month with Autumn as our guest DT - she is so talented!! I love seeing what she creates and will be sure to check out SewPaperPaint to see what she is up to! It's been great having you with us Autumn!!
I decided to use this week's theme to create this birthday card for my hubby.
I love using my MISTI to get crisp clear images! I am trying Tim Holtz's Heavystock for the first time, and I must say, I like it! My hubby always wears hats, so this image works perfectly for my card.
I used an old manila folder to make my card base and covered the front with some old tissue wrap called Terminology from Tim Holtz, then inked it up in oranges.
This seemed like the perfect project for some cardboard! Love to repurpose!! Making it nice and grungy.
Crazy dog time! Coloring this fella us with some Distress Crayons and blending with my water brush.
I felt like pup needed a bowler hat too! I added shadows by stamping the same images on Simon Says Stamp Vintage paper. Bet you can guess which birthday my hubby will be celebrating this year!
I've been itching to use my Eclectic Elements thread, so punched in some holes to make the X's. Originally, I bought the thread thinking I could use it in my machine, but when I tried, it wouldn't fit into the needle. Of course, after all that I went back and looked at the description where it specifically says it is for hand sewing. I really should learn to read directions first, I suppose! Oh heck, where is the fun in that?
I lined the insides and back of the card with Tim Holtz's French Industrial paper to hide the threads and because the back got dirty while I worked.
The card has a nice masculine vibe with a subtle hint of it being for a birthday.
Now, it's your turn to create a fun mixed media project with a pet theme! Looking forward to seeing what you create!!

Love your birthday card, Maura! I love the corrugated background and all the other elements you used. The added stitching is so cool. Your husband's going to love it!
ReplyDeleteCathie ♥
Oh yeah! The bakground corrugated cardboard could never be more grungy than you made it. Love the rough look of it. Hugs, Marzena
ReplyDeleteLols, I had to go check out the sewing machine - I already want the mint typewriter, so will be looking for the mint sewing machine!! Thanks for telling me!
ReplyDeleteYour husband has GOT to be the luckiest guy ever to get so many cool cards made for him! And I adore this one! I thought it was totally genius of you to make the outline of the silhouette in light colors, in contrast with the body of the silhouette. I shall have to copy that technique!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the dapper pup! Love the way you laid this card out! :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great card and like Barbara, I love how you've combined the stamps to create it...I bet your husband LOVED it! Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful birthday card, Maura. The background is so cool! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun paring of images Maura! They fit so well together and I love the hat on the dog. About reading directions, I stood pressing the button to an automatic door today, over and over, until a lady behind me said 'it says that you need to hold it in for two seconds'. Oops.
ReplyDeleteAnna-Karin, now that is a funny story about directions, and one I am sure I would do too. You would think all of my years of teaching would make me better about following directions, but no! :/
ReplyDeletelove how you mixed the stamps to create this wonderful card for your hubby Maura and that bulldog with his bowler hat made my morning...hugs kath xxx
