DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
I like this motto for a new year!
Hello Monday, friends! Our new challenge this week is to spread your wings! That might mean using images with wings, or maybe trying something brand new. We can't wait to see how you interpret our theme!
I decided to work in my big art journal this week, doing more of what makes me happy - creating with images, color and words. (the page on the left is a peek at my sweet little Jasper who has traveled over the rainbow bridge - here is the link to that page if you are interested)
Color makes me happy, and I am learning this about myself - when the weather outside is dark and overcast, I reach for colors!
My page began with a "junk page" in my art journal - a page where I wiped off excess gesso, paint, mediums, whatever rather than wasting it. Now, I am ready to use this page!
First step, head to your favorite colors (me - green, purple, and blue) and work some in to the page with your fingers - yes, that's right, get messy!! Next step, use a stencil and sponge in some white paint. I chose the honeycomb because I was thinking wings.
I stamped directly onto Simon's vintage paper, and cut my images out.
I love this big dragonfly that I got from Kath Stewart, and rubbed paint and stain onto the lovely textured surface, then sprayed with the mica spray to get that beautiful sheen dragonflies have.
I decided a bit more stenciling was in order, and did two corners, as well as smudging in some more paint.
I laid my pieces out several ways, until I found the one I was happy with and adhered everything, then went around the dragonfly and typewriter with my graphite pencil and a water brush.
It's all in the details....
I just love these flying insects from Prima!
Are you ready to spread your wings and join us? I am looking forward to your interpretation of our challenge this week. Simon Says Stamp offers a generous $50 voucher to one lucky person!

Holy cow, Maura! I am amazed at your process pictures and how you got to the stunning end result from where you were with this early-on! It was nothing more than a bug dark palette and look at how you tweaked it into something so elegant. Love how you were able to blend from purple to green, etc.
