Happy Halloween! I know it's a few days early, but there are so many Halloween events going on this weekend, it just seemed like the right time.
I started with a very small canvas - 3" x 3". My pumpkin will look gigantic, but it will also be a quick project. I sketched out my idea for the pumpkin right onto the mini canvas.
I wanted a green background, and painted on the first layer. The Fluid Acrylics are great for their transparency value!
Building up the greens...
Next step is the pumpkin. This will be used as a base to work from further into the process.
Adding the oranges, some shading, and I think I am ready to start the paper collage step.
I took a great class in the spring with Elizabeth St. Hilaire where not only did I learn a lot about painting my own papers (I am using the papers I made in class using DecoArt paints), but best of all I learned how to "paint with paper" or collage! This was new for me, and you can read all about it HERE.
The matte medium works great to adhere my paper bits to my canvas.
Closeup of the pumpkin collage...
I decided I wanted to add a bit of doodling to my pumpkin with white and black pens.
Since I already had the papers painted from my class in the spring, this was a quick afternoon project. So if anyone is still looking for the Great Pumpkin....
I really enjoyed working small, and trying my hand at collage again! I hope you've enjoyed my project.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Fantastic artwork Maura! Your pumpkin looks amazing! Happy Harvest!
