Ombre a la Dina Wakley

Hello Monday, my friends! Happy May! We have a brand new challenge for you at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - OMBRE, and we are using the wonderful Dina Wakley's products this week. We would love to see you use them in your entry, but it's not necessary.

Please welcome back the amazing Alison Bomber as our guest designer for the month of May!

I headed to my Dina Media Journal for this week's challenge, and pulled out my gel plate.

I chose blue for my ombre backgrounds, mainly because I had five different blues to work with.  I squeezed out a bit in separate sections of the gel plate and brayered across the plate, darkest at the top, lightest at the bottom.

First pull is on the left, second pull on the right.

Then I added a layer of Night to the gel plate, laid the stencils down, and lifted off the stenciled areas with another sheet of paper. Then, I laid down the ombre background over the plate and picked up the darker blue.

As you can see, I made several sheets to work with. The clean up sheets can even turn into something great to work with.

I glued the ombre background pages into the journal. I added white, yellow and orange to the large gel plate, stamped the woodcut images onto it, then lifted it with a hexagon gel plate and printed it. I cut several of these out to use on the pages.

I also had to decide how to cut the burlap in-between and decided to go with a triangle.

On this page, I stamped into the gel plate with the white, yellow, and orange to lift the color, then stamped directly onto the page.

I went in with the scribble sticks and added a bit of color and design to the page.

I keep an old catalog next to me to clean my brayer off, and also used it to clean the stamps. I liked it so well, it had to go in to the spread. I also added blue dots with a scribble stick.

I stamped The Joys of Spring down the hexagons, went around them with a scribble stick, stamped a bit and added some white. If you look closely, I am sure you will find my mistake.

On the other side of the burlap, I added a hexagon and bird, to carry the designs across the pages.

Ombre background, lots of stenciled designs, contrasting color - orange all coming together to celebrate spring!

Are you ready to go ombre? I'm looking forward to seeing your make! Be sure to use some Dina Wakley products if you have them this week. Our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp are offering a $50 voucher to shop at their awesome store!
