Simon Says: Masculine

Hello Monday, hello friends! I hope you've enjoyed a lovely creative week! We have a new challenge for you this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: MASCULINE. This comes at the perfect time for me as both sons will be celebrating birthdays, so I made their cards.

It has been a true pleasure having Alison Bomber with us again for the month of May! It has been a treat to work alongside you again, Alison, and I always look forward to your creative endeavors.

Both of my sons are quite adventurous, and I made this one for the one who loves to hike and camp in the Adirondack Mountains.

I started off by making a darker background than I usually play with, by wiping the distress oxides on my craft sheet, spritzing with water, then laying my watercolor paper down in it several times.

I decided to add in a bit more green with Peeled Paint distress ink, added water drops and then took a paper towel and soaked up the water - I love this technique!

I stamped the flock of birds from Visible Image with Simon's High Dive several times onto the background for a subtle design.

Now, I am ready to stencil! I used the Black Soot paint and my new AALL and Create stencil. Gotta say, I love this stencil design!!

I added in quotes using Tim Holtz's Theories set.

Then stamped happy birthday inside the card with High Dive. I always have to check my words to see if they look right before I stamp. Also, I didn't have a large piece of cardstock for the card handy, since it is over 6" in size, so I cut a manila folder I had on hand to make the card base.

My other son loves to bike - Mountain biking and Gravity riding are his passion, so this wonky trio of bike riders from the Theories set seemed just perfect for him.

I created a brighter background with the inks, just like I did the previous one.

Next, I used Simon's Grid stencil and added in some sections of blue.

Then, I just got playing and forgot to take photos, so here are a couple of details.

I added some gears over the wheels of the bike for a fun touch.

I thought I'd share with you what my table looks like in the midst of my creative frenzy - my working space narrows down to almost nothing as everything I'm working with keeps piling up! Does this happen to you?

So, embrace the journey....

...and look for adventure!
