Stamping Beyond the Paper

Hello Monday my friends! I hope you have enjoyed a great week creating and getting ready for the holidays. I know I've been busy trying to fit in some extra shopping, meeting up with friends, wrapping gifts, getting our tree and trimming it this week!

Our challenge for you this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is to STITCH IT UP. Use real stitching, pull out the sewing machine, use faux stitching with dies...how you stitch is totally up to you! I chose to embroider my project for this week, and all I can say, is always build in lots of extra time when embroidering. Why not use your stamps for more than paper?

I ordered an X back apron and was anxiously awaiting its delivery to make my project.I like the style because it wraps around the sides. I usually wear an apron when I create, and would sometimes find paint or ink on my clothes at the side. (Now that I have it, I can use it for a pattern.)
It's a light grey cotton, very plain so I thought it would be fun to decorate it.

Here you can see the plain apron I began with.

I used several Simon stamp sets and the black dye ink to lay out my pattern. I have to say I wondered if I was too ambitious with my design as I worked hard to finish on time, LOL! I also thought about painting some of the flowers and embroidering some to save time. But, all's well that ends well.

I stamped a flourish on one side of my floral area, and wanted to reverse it for the other side. Here's how I solved the problem - I stamped it onto a plastic bag, and pressed the bag onto the fabric. It worked!

I laid a piece of cardboard into the pocket before I stamped...just in case.

I also tried to work in some dimension with the floss by making French Knots.

My little butterfly...

I used a variety of floss strands (3 or 6) to vary the thickness of the flowers, as well as trying to do a bit of shading with different colors.

Top and pocket...FINISHED!

Are you ready to add some stitching to your project this week for our challenge? I'm looking forward to seeing how you incorporate stitches into your work!
