Retro Christmas

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Home Decor Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

We've had a wonderful month with our guest designer, Lori E. Kennedy! Thanks for sharing your lovely creations with us Lori!

This week the challenge is: CHRISTMAS

BELIEVE!

It's always fun to create  a bit of magic for the holidays!

I'm using one of the Tim Holtz square vignette boxes and some hand painted papers I recently made. (Tip: If you have pads or pieces of patterned paper you aren't using, you can always paint on them in fun designs and let a bit of the original paper peek through.) I painted and doodled on mine, and cut them to fit.

I went into my stash, and found bits and bobs from Tim Holtz ephemera and some other things to use.

I deconstructed a Christmas card from last year to add the snowman. I popped up the pieces two or three times to create dimension.

And, I had to add a bit of frosty glitter! I used the Simon Says Stamp Unicorn confetti, which also adds a touch of color.

I like the mix of retro pink, greens, and turquoise  with some of the more traditional colors.

It's fun to add elements to the top and sides of the box too, to add more interest and dimension.

Now, I have a fun little home decor piece for the holidays or to gift to a friend. I'm looking forward to seeing what you are creating for Christmas or the holidays!

Harvest Kokopelli

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Halloween/Spooky Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: HOME DECOR

HARVEST KOKOPELLI

Years ago, my husband cut out a lot of Kokopelli figures from scrap wood we had, in several sizes. Over the years, I have transformed several of them into different themes, and this time I chose a harvest or fall theme. I think this Kokopelli may find its way onto my Thanksgiving table in honor of our First Nations.

I began my project by blending Sage and Turquoise paints over as much of the surface as possible.

Then, I used Simon's Fanfare stencil to add a design to my wood piece. I used Lapis on the upper section and applied it sparingly with a cosmetic sponge.

I turned the stencil upside down and applied Sedona.

I added some Tim Holtz Foundry waxes to the flute, hair and lower portion of the body.

Then, I went over the lower wax area with the stencil and Sedona paint again.

I used a Turquoise paint pen to add some curved lines into the design, and added a trio of feathers through a coyote charm. I decided the feathers needed a bit more, so flicked on some gold gouache and paint.

I like the mix of bold design and large feathers, and the charm from my stash adds the perfect touch, I think. I hope you have enjoyed my project and if you are interested in my other Kokopellis, the links are here: Steampunk Kokopelli, Autumn Kokopelli, Short Circuit, and Blue Man Kokopelli.

Spooky Halloween

Hello Monday my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Fall Mood Board Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: HALLOWEEN/SPOOKY

CUTE FRANK...ENSTEIN

Oh my, Frank, you are not looking very happy! Is it because Halloween is not here yet? You really shouldn't be - around here, I am seeing LOTS of Halloween decorations. The stores have been carrying stuff for months. October 31 will be here before you know it!

I stamped my Frank images on the slimline card and colored them with distress watercolor pencils.

I changed the mouth a bit with black pen, and added some stitches to poor Frank. Maybe that look is from the stitching...or a toothache...

I was all set to keep this very clean and simple with just the colored images, but then I slept on it, and came up with a new idea to stencil around my Franks. I must say, I do love my Simon Pawsitively Saturated inks - they are so vibrant and juicy!

I doodled this one's mouth too and added stitches.

On the inside, I added a strip of black cardstock, and stamped a Circle Saying and die cut that. I also stenciled the outer edge.

Happy Haunting! Happy Halloween!...from your friendly Frank...enstein
