OK....I just have to say that Maura's SteamPunk project is absolutely gorgeous! She did a fantastic job with a really cool idea.
For my second project, I kept the same basic idea as the wooden clothespins but used Stampbord instead. If you're not familiar with Stampbord, it has a smooth clay finish that accepts all types of inks. Since the surface is made of clay, you can then scratch into your designs to create incredible details. It's a fun medium to stamp with! I started with four small rectangle pieces.
I used the same four Distress Ink colors--Spiced Marmalade, Peeled Paint, Barn Door and Faded Jeans. I then placed the four pieces ink side down on top of my rubber stamp that I had inked up with StazOn black ink. When I carefully lifted them off, they looked like this.
After I used the detail tool to add the white accents, I decided to mat the four pieces to make a greeting card. I stamped with Versamark ink on the blue mat.
And here's another view.
If you want to see previous projects using Stampbord, check them out HERE and Here.
This challenge was a lot of fun! Thanks Maura.

Another Accordion Mini Book

Here's another accordion style mini book. The cover is four Stampbord squares that I adhered onto a piece of chipboard. For the journaling on the photos, I printed out the text on cardstock and then just cut the words apart and adhered directly to the photos.

Now, if you really want to preserve your photos, it's not good to adhere directly on top of them. I always start with copies of my photos to work with for my mini books. The originals go into camping layouts that I want to last. However, I like my mini books to be picked up, looked through and enjoyed time and time again and I don't mind if they get worn out or won't last for generations. I'll just make another! They are probably my favorite thing to do and the possibilities are endless.

Stamping on Stampbord
I've been working on making more of my little camper mini albums for my etsy shop and thought that I would share my process here with you.
These Stampbord pieces make wonderful covers for scrapbook albums. They are acid free, archival and about 1/8" thick and very sturdy. They come in a variety of sizes but I like these 3 1/2" square ones for this project.

Stampbord has an ultra-smooth clay finish that accepts all types of stamping inks including dye based, alcohol and pigment. First I used a Cat's Eye pigment ink and just applied it directly to the surface. For a nice finished look, I like to run a black Sharpie marker along the outer side edges of the piece.
Once the ink dries, I stamp my image with StazOn black ink. Here I am borrowing Maura's Happy Camper set from Stampin' Up. I love this little image!

Since the surface is made of clay, you can scratch back into your designs to create incredible details, highlights and textures using a scratch tool. The surface is correctable and erasable making it easy to work with. Here are just a few detail lines scratched in.

And here is the finished project. You can add as much or as little detail as you like.

At a crop with Maura, working with Stampbord was one of our projects to do together. This was the first time either of us had used it. We made little accordion scrapbooks of our visit. On this project, we added a bit of ink color back into the scratched off white surfaces. Just one of the many options with Stampbord.

And this final project shows a cover made up of four single squares adhered to a piece of book board.
It isn't all that easy to find Stampbord locally but I found a great online store here that I have ordered from and have gotten great service.
Hope you enjoyed!
