Challenge: Anything Goes

Over at Simon Says, the challenge this week is anything goes, so I am posting something I just learned from my friends Doris and Laura in my art journal class last night. We learned a LOT about Dylusions inks and different techniques to use in our art journals. This page I finished. I don't usually work in black and white, so it was fun, and since I was randomly given a guy stencil, I was inspired to write about my sons.

I rubbed distress black soot paint on the page, wiped it all over with a baby wipe and dried it. Next I used the stencil to draw the outline of the man with white pen, then a template to make the lines. Some doodling and words, then stamping words inside the stencil to get this rather 1960's(?) image.

  1. Wow! What a cool look you've created! It shouldn't even surprise me by now because you always have the most absolutely clever ideas. The color palette of this is so simple and yet this piece is visually stunning. I love the silhouette and how it goes with the "sons" theme. I also really like how the text goes in different directions and was written in different fonts. Excellent work, as always, and I'm so glad you shared this amazing piece with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp "Anything Goes" challenge!

  2. Maura...your art journal page is very cool. Love this chalkboard background with the silhouette and writing around it. That looks very cool. You're doing this journal page has further given me the courage to just jump off of the ledge and do some freestyle art journaling. It was all the rage at CHA and I so enjoyed getting to watch some demos and talk to journalists. Dive in, right?! I also wanted to thank you so much for the lovely comments you've left on my blog over my time at Simon Says Stamp. Here's to a creative 2014 for all of us! <3 Candy
