The Summer Flow

Good morning! It's Monday, and that means it is time for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! Today, it is all about summer. For some people this time of year means pools, beach time, and warm weather. Some love to travel and enjoy vacations. Other people just soak in the sunshine. How does summer translate into your creative life? What do you make to celebrate it? Are you inspired by the colors? The themes? This theme is wide open – we can’t wait to see what you come up with for this summer challenge!

For me, summer is all about the flow! Soaking up the sun, lazy days splashing at the beach, camping trips, lots of time outdoors enjoying the laid back pace of the season and the bright vivid colors. I decided a fun, colorful and playful canvas would show my summer vibes best.

I started with a 11 x 14 canvas, hot glued crayons to it, and then melted the crayons with a heat gun to create the flow across the canvas. Next, I painted the edges and left side with Dina Wakley's Turquoise paint. I took my bold black pen and traced around all of the wax areas.

I wanted a word to put across the crayons, and when I look at this, I see the flowing colors, so flow just works. I painted grungeboard letters with Distress Black Soot and glued them on.

Then, the playful side took over, and the doodling began! I knew I wanted to keep some "white" space (even when it was colorful, so to speak) to balance out all of the details with the black pens. It worked great using the different size pens to doodle. I found myself drawing areas similar to a navigation map, or bubbles, or sea creatures, so my mind was definitely in the flow!

I can't wait to see how you creatively interpret summer!
Time to get crafty and and join us in the fun!  A random winner is chosen every week to win a $50 spending spree from SimonSaysStamp!

  5. Holy cow! This is awesome! And very impressive. I tried melting crayons once and I ended up spending the next half an hour cleaning wax smudges and drips off my walls and tabletop. Not to mention the crazy smell and charred hole I left on my canvas! Suffice it to say, mine did NOT turn out like yours, which I adore. Love how the melted look reminded me of the hot sun and how the bright colors screamed of the energy of Summer adventures. Super cool concept and admirable execution!
