Citrus With a Twist!

Hello Monday! Welcome to our next challenge at Simon Says Stamp! Twisted Citron has me thinking about all things citrus, neon, and fresh! This week from oranges to bright fresh color we want to see how you’ll use citrus… with your own twist, of course.

When I saw the names of the Dylusions Paints, "fresh squeezed orange," "lemon zest," and "fresh lime," I knew I had to try these out for this challenge. It is the first time I have used these paints and I love them!! They are so smooth and layer beautifully.

Since garden season is in full swing, it is always the time of year that I especially think of my dad. I learned to garden as a toddler and everything I know comes from gardening with my dad. So, I always find myself thinking about him when I am out digging in the dirt, weeding, harvesting, or just enjoying the beauty of the garden. I think he is my garden angel.

A quick view of a bit of my garden. I have many scattered around the yard, but most of the veggies are in my raised beds.

I started my journal pages with a layer of gesso,  some texture paste and stencils, then started laying on these wonderful citrus colors, and of course, some Twisted Citron ink!

I knew I wanted to use some wash tape, so experimented with painting it to see what would happen...I like it!

Layering on some word tissue and washi....plus I wanted to tone it down a bit, so whitewashed the pages. But, before I did that I "twisted" on some more of the orange with some tissue paper. I just dipped it in paint and laid it on the page with a twist of my hand. (check out the top photo, and I think you can see the swirl)

Stamped the images using the lovely Dina Wakley stamps, hand lettered my words, added some citrusy sequins...

I am really liking the contrast of the black images and writing against the lovely citrus colors.

Be sure to check out all of the wonderful inspiration by the DT at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog! I can't wait to see how you interpret this week's challenge!

  7. Great pages, Maura! The colors really accent the textures. Lovely! I've never tried those paints before, and I love how used them. I might have to try those myself. :)

  9. Love the colors you've combined here and how it has this cool non-square patchwork look. And wow! I think I need to get me a garden angel, too-- especially if they come in at night and do all the weeding for you! But in all seriousness, what a sweet tribute to your dad. My dad means the world to me and there are indeed things everyday that remind me of how much he's positively impacted my life. So kudos to honoring those moments together!
