Simon Says Chill Out!

Hello Monday! We have a fun theme for you this week - Chill Out! With more snow on the horizon, the obvious idea for chilling out is winter and snow, but I headed out into the chilly reaches of space instead.
When I saw the Carta Bella Space Academy line, I knew where I wanted to head with our theme. I had some different ideas, but when I thought about altering notebooks, I knew that was it.

I purchased a lined and graph notebook on sale, then covered them front, back and inside with the patterned papers. There are so many fun designs in this set, and some remind me of the old TV shows like The Jetsons and Lost in Space. Anyone remember those?

Time to stencil and since I wanted my grey a bit darker, I mixed it with black, then stenciled around the edges.
TIP: when stenciling with paint, put a bit of paint on a craft sheet or palette, then using your dabber or sponge, touch it to the paint, then dab it off several times. This way you only have a tiny bit of paint on the sponge when you go to stencil and it will stay in the design. This is one of those times when less is more!

I used a mix of circle and square shapes to stencil the notebooks and used several colors to layer the stenciled designs.

A bit of stenciling detail, and as you can see, I later went in and doodled around some of the shapes.

I like to chill out with a bit of journaling and designing...

I decided to make matching bookmarks too.

Are you ready to head out into the chilly regions of space and start exploring yet?

I'll see you out there!

I hope you have enjoyed my space themed take on "Chill Out." I hope you will join us in the challenge, and now I am wondering how you will interpret our theme this week!

  3. I love your space creations, Maura! These are such fun notebook covers and I love how you put everything together. I guess the obvious interpretation for this challenge would be snow or winter but I never once thought of either. I guess that's what happens when you live in Arizona where it's always sunny and warm (sometimes a little too warm).

  4. I love notebooks and these are absolutely adorable! The space theme is perfect and I thought it was genius how you did the edge inking and distressing and incorporated that fabulous gray paint. If space was this classy, I'd sign myself up for NASA in a heartbeat! Love these!
