Inside the Box



We have a fun new challenge for you this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - INSIDE THE BOX. If you joined us last week, thanks so much for sharing and participating! Find some crafting time this week if you can and let's play inside the box!

With this week's challenge, I altered a simple cardboard gift box and made a brightly colored mini album to fit inside. I had fun playing with the colors and images and thinking Spring. (yep, still snow here)


I started altering the box by painting it inside and out, then went in with a contrasting color and a couple of stencils.


Once the bottom part of the box was dry, I added some washi tape to keep the box parts from sticking together.


Next step some doodling...


...then, some stamping and finally I added the butterflies with the Simon Says Stamp stencil from the April Card Kit.



I cut two strips of Ranger's heavy weight manila card stock, 3" x 9" and scored it every 3", then I overlapped one section from each and adhered them together. Time for the paint! I squirted on some blue, green and yellow in a somewhat thick layer, brushed it around, then pressed sections together to get this great texture.


Once the first layer was completely dry, I went in with some stencils from my stash, and dabbed in the designs with contrasting colors.


Next layer is stamped images. I used one of Birgit Koopsen's mixed media flowers, and Simon's Artsy Flower Parts set.



I stenciled butterflies into my spring garden, and added details with paint and ink pens.



A bit of sari ribbon to tie off the finished book.

Final touch - a bit of sari ribbon to tie the book closed.

  11. Maura!!! If ever you and I needed concrete evidence that we share a muse, this week proves it! We both did a folding book in a box! And your turned out SooOoOOo cool! What a great use of stamps and colors here. I love everything about this and it made me want to make a box with a book in it...oh, wait! Ha, ha! Check that off the list!
