Beware the Kraken!

Hello Monday, my friends! We have a brand new challenge for you this week - INSPIRED BY A MYTH, FABLE or STORY. I love to read, so this one really sparked my interest! Thanks for playing along last week with our Trio of Something challenge, and I hope you will be inspired to share with us this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge with us!

I pondered this challenge for several days until the spark of inspiration hit me - the Kraken! There certainly are a lot of myths and stories surrounding this "Monster of the Deep". Stories of old told by sailors of huge monsters that attacked their ships and tried to drag them into the deep...movies such as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series that play on this theme...and my favorites: Books!

One of my favorite genres is Steampunk, and there are some great Kraken books out there - The Kraken King series by Meljean Brook and The Kraken's Caribbean series by Maureen O. Betita. Check them out if you are looking for something different to read. They definitely worked as my Muse for this theme!

I worked in my Dina Wakley Media Journal, and really just planned to work on the right page, but I eventually overflowed to the left side.

I started out painting a layer of blue onto the page, then stenciling with Simon's Wave stencil and two darker, translucent blues.

Next, I stenciled the Ammonite and fish with Prima Sparks paints.

Oh, why not add some Paper Artsy Infusions too? I sprinkled four colors on and misted them with water.

Details...

I really got that page wet, so while it was drying, I stamped the sea images onto watercolor paper and Tissue wrap. Then, I colored them using Jane Davenport's Mermaid Markers. I love how vibrant the colors are!

I did not take into account the Infusions would react when I used the Collage Medium to adhere the images stamped on tissue, but you get the hint of the jellyfish here...

...and you really have to look closely to see the plant images here, they show up more as color than anything else.

I decided to paint the Kraken in brighter colors to contrast with the background, and added a crown, because yes, I was channeling the Kraken King!

I stamped my journaling onto the burlap and added the fish and seahorse here.

It might not look like the ocean we know, but maybe this is what it looks like to the Kraken!

Are you thinking of myths? fables? stories? I can't wait to see how you interpret our challenge this week! Please share with us, you could be the one chosen for the $50 shopping voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp!
