Hello Monday, and welcome friends!
Our challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is: USE A CLEAR ELEMENT.
Happy September! A new month means it is time to welcome a new guest designer, the amazingly talented Anne Redfern of Redanne!! So happy to have you creating with us this month Anne!
UPDATE: So honored to have this chosen as a Favorite on Splitcoaststampers for September 14!!
I headed to my art journal this week, and what I created is totally different than what I originally thought I was going to do. My opinion when working on a creative project is to:
LISTEN TO THE VOICES IN YOUR HEAD
When I have leftover paint, or messy stencils, objects like bubble wrap, etc. is to press them onto an empty page in a journal. They are there to come back to in a future project. So, here I am starting with a "junk page".
I went over this with Simon's Mod Stripe stencil and an opaque grey.
Next, I laid the Visible Image Skull Head stencil over that and blended on some Terracotta and a light yellow. I decided there was too much busyness inside the skull with the stripes, so I blended grey over that area to make the skull stand out.
I blended the lighter colors outward around the skull.
I added in a bit of light embossing with the Spice Market Boho Blends.
I stamped on "thought" bubbles and filled some in with Diamond Glaze for a clear element.
I hand lettered "Listen to the voices in your head".
I stamped the gentleman on acetate and adhered this with the Diamond Glaze for another clear element. I also pulled out a small metal cog from my stash to put over the eye.
So, listen to the voices in your head...messages from your ancestors, your muse talking to you, that little voice telling you to be kind to a person in need, your intuition....if you are like me, those voices are there, the ones that can uplift us or defeat us. Listen to those voices that make you feel good and positive and help you to be a better person!
I hope I've inspired you to try out a clear element this week, like Diamond Glaze or acetate, or the many clear bits of ephemera out there, and join us! One participant is drawn at random for a $50 shopping voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp!

Maura, I just love the whole design of this creation, it is fantastic. The half skull looks like he might be having dark thoughts whereas the lovely gent balances so well, thinking all good thoughts (in my mind anyway!). Really beautiful and thought provoking!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your warm welcome too, it is lovely to be crafting alongside you this month. Hugs, Anne xx
Such a super cool journal page Maura! I love the message and all the texture and what a great idea to use the skull for this theme, instead of for Halloween. Hugs!
