Simon Says: Stars!

Hello Monday my friends! Welcome to our STARS challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Isn't this a great quote from Darkroom Door? I definitely follow this, looking for those rainbows and stars. 

I headed to my art journal for this week's challenge, and the black Dylusions journal seemed perfect. But, I did decide to work on watercolor paper with the gel plate and then put the pages in. I wanted to focus on the night sky in my journal, thinking of all the stars out there. Of course, you could interpret this theme in a totally different way!

I wanted to create a dark background for the night sky, but also include some metallic. I usually just blend my colors right on the gel press with the brayer. 

First pull off the plate...

Next, I mixed some metallics on the round gel press and used the sun stencil. 

I like how it looks against the darker background. 

I like to layer colors and designs, so on one side of the journal, I am layering over the sun stencil.

Then, I layered a compass rose over that. I was thinking of how we use a compass to find the stars, as well as thinking about the North star. 

 I stamped the quote and Cosmos onto watercolor paper and colored with Tombow markers and blended with a waterbrush. 

I made my own star patterns and cut them out of the metallic paper to add to the pages. 

Final layer, a sprinkle of Infusions over the pages.

Details, details, details...

So, be sure to look for both the rainbows and the stars! My son and I were standing outside one clear night looking up at the stars and Milky Way, and some meteors - talk about awe inspiring!
