Make Your Own Background

Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  Stitch It Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

UPDATE: Honored to have my card chosen as a Weekly Favorite at Splitcoaststampers!

This week the challenge is:
MAKE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND

I LOVE creating my own backgrounds! There is so much play involved, and it's very relaxing for me. I work on a layer, lt it dry and come back later for another layer. Why not try this yourself? These will make a wonderful addition for your stash.

BUTTERFLY BIRTHDAY

I began with acrylic paints, smudging them across my book pages with cosmetic sponges. You can also use a brush or even your fingers.

Next, I added some marks with paint and a paint pen.

Final step was doodling in white. I used a fine tip applicator with watered down white acrylic paint.. Once that dried, I did add a bit more color with paint pens.

So, what should I make? I decided on a birthday card, since I need one for a special person. I cut a piece of my background paper and put it on black cardstock. I made that piece a bit too long, and since it was stuck, I cut a thin strip of black to cover that end.

Detail...

The Scribbly Butterfly in black pops against all the bright colors.

I added a band with Happy Birthday...

And there we have it! A slimline birthday card with my very own background.

This week the challenge is: MASCULINE

This challenge came at the perfect time - it gave me an opportunity to make birthday cards for my sons.

My elder son loves to read, and has a magnificent green thumb.

My younger son has a knack for mechanics, is always in motion, and loves to travel.

  •  I stamped, colored, and fussy cut the cacti...

I used the grid stencil for the background with paint, and stamped the mystery man in the center.

I clustered the cacti at the base of the card.

Dan's birthday card...

I also used the grid stencil and paint on my second card.

\

I stamped, fussy cut, and layered the images onto the card.

Ben's birthday card...
