Creative Jumpstart 2016 - Inspired by Frida Kahlo

I am loving my Creative Jumpstart 2016 adventure! Nathalie Kahlbach has done an awesome job putting this workshop together, and the Artists we are learning from are the best! Each one has a wonderfully unique view they are sharing with us. It's not too late to join in, check it out HERE.


I headed to my art journal for this one, and decided to work in acrylics. Frida Kahlo is such an inspiring artist, her work, her life, her ideas. I was especially inspired by her wonderful, colorful flowers, see what you think...

I began with my black 8x8 Dylusions journal and stencils and texture paste.

Playing around with acrylics and bright colors to make my flower bases.

Adding doodling to give the flowers details. I used acrylic markers for the first time, and need some more practice, but not bad.

To me, this kind of looked like a very bright wallpaper, or cluttered art journal pages, so how to fix? Out came the white paint and some whitewashing. Thought it would be fun to add some text and another layer of flowers.

I enjoyed working on this, especially the making the bright colorful flowers...it was another gray overcast day, so this was a good antidote to that.
