Follow Your Own Path

Hello friends! It's a trio-tastic week, and we challenge you to use three of something on your project this week for the Monday challenge! I chose to use a trio of elephants for my three.

I knew I needed a larger format for three elephants, so I headed to my big Dylusions art journal for this project.

One helpful hint I've learned in several classes lately is, if you have any leftover paint you are working with, slap it onto a blank page in your journal. That's how these pages started - leftover paints from various other things I was working on.

To pull it together, I went over all with a light layer of Dina Wakley's elephant acrylic paint, did some stenciling by lifting color off with a baby wipe to reveal the under layer.

Next layer is stenciling right on top. A small sponge with very little paint helps to get the details.

I went in with more paint around the edges and in the center - Night and White, added more stenciling, and then lots of stamping, including some of Seth Apter's new set - Billboards.

One thing really cool with Nathalie Kahlbach's elephant stamp is you get a detailed rubber stamp, a foam stamp (which I used here for the pink elephants) and a stencil! Now that's a trio!! I doodled around the edge of the elephant to make it stand out more.

I hand lettered my thoughts here. This came to me as I looked at two elephants going one way, and the third is opposite. It has also been such a challenging time in my country with elections (I am working on this two days away from voting) so I was also thinking of how important it is that we make our own informed decisions. Hence...Follow the beat of your own drum!

A bit of detail to show the layers of stenciling and stamping.

Almost done...

I stamped the elephant onto a piece of vintage music sheet that I had sprayed some gold onto, then cut it out.

I wanted to test out something new to me - Prima Flowers Memory Hardware Artisan Powders. I chose the Antoinette Pink. It adds a vintage touch, but I think I need more practice with it.

And...here is my trio of elephants with one marching to its own drum.

So, are you thinking of a trio of some product or image to use on your project this week? Be sure to share it with us, and you could win a $50 voucher from Simon Says Stamp!
