Smashing Pumpkins!

Hello Monday, my friends! No, I am not smashing pumpkins around here, but hope I caught your attention! Our challenge for you this week is MONOCHROME (working in one color). I immediately thought of the color orange since it is fall and Halloween is just around the bend.

I knew I wanted to work in a fall theme, and the Ornate Leaves set from Simon's Stamptember release is perfect for me. I headed to one of my small art journals to get started.

I began with a variety of orange inks and a stencil to get the first layer down.

Then, I went over that with distress oxide ink and spritzed it with water. (night photo and the color is not great, sorry)

In order to create a more cohesive background, I added some translucent paints. I painted a layer on, then wiped it down with a baby wipe so the stencil would still show through.

Time for another stencil layer, and I'm creating a medallion look with this great little stencil designed by Gwen LaFleur. I had the great pleasure of meeting Gwen on my trip to India! She is so talented and has such an artistic eye for color and design. It truly was an awesome experience spending a few days with her on our trip!

I used my stamping platform and inked up the stamps with a mix of these two inks. I wanted to get a variegated look with the color.

Laying it all out, after I edged the large leaves and pumpkins with Viva Copper wax. In my mind, I see copper as a shade of orange. I did step out of bounds with the monochrome with a touch of brown, but I did want my words visible.

Final step is a cascade of copper sequins, and a touch of Wink of Stella glitter.

So it's not smashing pumpkins, but maybe it is orange smash! I hope you've enjoyed my monochrome project and are inspired to join us this week!
One lucky person will win a $50 voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp.
