City of Rust

Hello Monday, my friends! We have a new challenge for you at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - CITYSCAPE. I decided to create my own rusty city.

Update:
Honored to have this chosen as a Splitcoast Favorites for the week of October 20th!!

I went with a rusty theme for my city, because in due time, much of the city will rust. Sometimes, they even design buildings to have a rusty appearance!

I created a background paper for my buildings using watercolor paper and fall colors.

Next, I used Simon's Grid stencil and added grids in red. Cities are often built on grid systems, and buildings have grid layouts sometimes.

I used a skewer and scribbled in some grafitti (intaglio) because after all, I bet we could find graffiti in any city we visited.

I wanted to make it all darker, so rubbed on some distress ink (ground espresso) and spritzed it with water.

Once the paper was completely dry, I started stamping with some of Seth's new designs, then cut them apart and laid them out into buildings.

I used a couple of "junk" pages in my art journal. These are pages that at one time I cleaned off my brayer by rolling paint onto these pages. It is a great way to clean up excess paint, and have for future use.
I laid out my buildings, then added some Rusty Car infusions which I let drip down.

I added in some detail with a white pen - lighted windows and scribbly outlines.

Rust Never Sleeps...as Neil Young would sing. Cities never sleep, and would eventually rust away over time. (Not to worry, lots of time!!)

I had fun creating my cityscape by using stamps in a unique way. I hope I've inspired you to create your own cityscape, maybe using stamps, dies, stencils, paper...check your stash! One lucky participant will win a $50 voucher from our generous friends at Simon Says Stamp!
