Books, I love them!

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  SPRITZ  AND SPLATTER   Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: MAKE A BOOKMARK/BASED ON BOOKS

I LOVE to read! As far back as my memories go, there were books in my life. I remember taking them outside with me and reading under a tree. I took them camping, traveling...wherever I as there were books, usually a stack of them. I didn't have as much time to read for myself when i was teaching, so summers were my time to catch up.  Now, with my vision problems, I listen to books and read them on my Kindle.  Yes, I LOVE to read!!

 

I rounded the edges of my watercolor paper bookmark. Then, I brushed on a wet layer of colors. I let it dry a bit. 
 

Time for some "subtractive" stenciling, or where I remove color. I laid the stencil on some areas and wiped back the color with a baby wipe (wet cloth woks too). I love the pattern that emerges. 

I doodles a stack of books with waterproof black ink. Boy, was it hard to just choose a few of my favorites: Chronicles of Narnia by C.C. Lewis, Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, and The Chronicles of St Mary's by Jodi Taylor are just a few. 

I stamped the wise owl, because reading makes you wise, right? I colored him with watercolor, fussy cut him out, and one completely dry, I added highlights with a gold pen.  

I think Gus loves books too! 

I stamped READ across the top, went around the letter boxes with gold pen, and tied on some twine. 

I added watercolor to the stack of books and fussy cut this before glueing to the bookmark. 

Read a few of your favorite books, and make a bookmark to keep your place. Or create a make based on a book you love.

Sparkle and Shine!

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  HAPPY BIRTHDAY  Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: SPARKLE AND SHINE

So, inspired by a stamp, I went off in a wonderfully weird direction. As a retired science teacher, I think I can say that we are all a little weird in our own ways. I thought I would put together this fun folio album for a fellow science teacher. 

SCIENCE - a little bit wonderfully weird...

It all began with some stamping... 

Then, I began layering and smooshing ink over the stamping. I blended more Mandarin ink in some areas.

I felt like I wanted to lighten it up, so added some bright yellow with a scribble stick. Dip your scribble stick in water and then use to get a lovely flow.

I forgot to take a photo, but after I had this the way I wanted, I went over it with a wash of gold gouache. Metallic watercolor would work too for some shine.

On the smaller folio, I brushed gold gouache onto the cardboard and stamped with it to create lines for journaling. 

I stencil the folio with the Simon Fanfare stencil and Mandarin and Ocean inks, then added drops of gold

I smooshed the smaller folio over it and dragged to add some gold.

My inspiration for the make...a bit of sparkle and shine with gold and drops.

I added the old photo, and had fun adding goggles and ephemera. I used Gossy Accents to make the godless look shiny. 

The fun little images throughout are from AALL and Create and Studio Light. I think they add a fun and whimsically weird touch.

I was trying to get the sheen from the gold gouache...

BACK...why not a mermaid and science sticker? I tied the two folios together with a strip of Tim Holtz Colorblock fabric. 

FRONT...and yes, science is a bit wonderfully weird!

Things With Wheels

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  A NEW START Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too. 

This week the challenge is: THINGS WITH WHEELS

I am fascinated with Gypsy Wagons. I love the bright colors and how everything fits into a small tidy space... maybe these are the original Tiny House! I think the idea of a nomadic lifestyle appeals to me too, although maybe not in year long journeys. I do love exploring new places and traveling, and always thought I had a bit of gypsy in me - a romantic idea, right? well, at least in my mind. 

I was intrigued with this Carriage Dwelling stamp from Lavinia and knew I could have some fun with it. One of my new favorite black inks is Simon Says Stamp's Intense Black, it gives a very rich black color to your work. 

I began by stamping a trio of wagons onto a strip of watercolor paper.  

Then, the fun begins! I painted each wagon in a different color story

 using watercolor.  

I pulled some color from the wheels to create the ground shadow. 

I painted in the sky, and once everything was dry, I doodled a frame around the paper. My final step was to handwrite "just rolling along" under the wagons. 

 The caravan is rolling through on a journey to new and wonderful places. Time for a caravan adventure!
