Summer Fun!

Hello Monday! We have a new challenge at Simon Says Stamp for our Monday challenge - Summer Fun! I hope each and every one of you has been having as much fun this summer as I have. It really has been a glorious summer with a few really hot days and rainy days thrown in here and there. My garden is thriving, thanks to my son Dan, and my family is happy and healthy, enjoying hikes, biking, music, storytelling, crafting...and so much more!

Be sure to have your kids check out this summer fun challenge just for them!

Some of my fun this summer came from participating in Tim Holtz's Summer of Creative Chemistry. Today's project is inspired by a technique I learned in CC103. I thoroughly have enjoyed working my "creative muscle" this summer! This image reminds me of biking, going to the circus and fairs...all good summer fun!

I started off creating my background with alcohol inks on Yupo.

Closeup of the texture, including threads from the applicator felt, which I like. It's almost like looking into a colorful ocean.

I decided to do a bit of sewing around the tag, and I really like the extra that adds. I also stamped some balloons from my Crazy accessories stamps and used alcohol ink with those. The strings are from tags and i just dyed them with the ink also. Love how the image looks!

The word band seemed to capture the energy and excitement of summer, and I used the alcohol ink and some Black Soot paint on this, then tied it on with some hand dyed ribbon I had made a while back.

I really hope you have been enjoying a wonderful summer full of fun. Please join us in the challenge and share some of your summer fun with us! As always, Simon offers a generous $50 voucher to one participant in the challenge, and winning this would certainly add to your summer fun!

CC103: Days 4-6

I have had a blast with Creative Chemistry this summer with Tim Holtz! I wanted to also share with you Days 4 and 5. If you want to see Days 1-3, click here.

Day 4

I discovered this tool also works for blowing air to create designs in alcohol ink.

Day 5

Day 6

I may not be quite finished with CC103, hoping to have time to create a project or two before the end of class.

But what a summer it has been, revisiting and relearning CC101 and 102 (and finding I needed to finish several techniques) and taking CC103! I am feeling accomplished!!

CC103 - a Glimpse into my World

It's finally here - Creative Chemistry 103, which means it is time for me to put on my student hat, and homework!! I thought I would share a few glimpses into what I have worked on so far.

Day 1

Creative mess on my desk...

Day 2

Testing out some new products and techniques...

I'm starting to feel some accomplishment here!

Day 3

...and I am currently working on Day 4 right now. Wanted to do a quick share while I am waiting for some mediums to dry. Hope you have enjoyed this glimpse.

Do you have a favorite? Are you also taking CC103?
Enjoy some creative fun today.

Summer of Creative Chemistry: Weeks 2 & 3

So, funny thing happened as I was working through class with Tim Holtz in Summer of Creative Chemistry...I discovered I never made a whole bunch of the sample tags from CC101! Not sure how that happened, probably life just got in the way at that time. Good thing I am back in class, catching up, playing, learning and just having FUN!!

My Week 2 tag:
I was trying to make it look like a nest at the bottom with the fringed tag and the cheesecloth.

Week 3 Tag:
Playing with Perfect Pearls - it's been ages! Trying to show some of the shine below. Love these stamps!

And then...
I had the brilliant idea to add to the tag so I could enter it into Creative Carte Blanche's "Winged Things" challenge! I was thinking about air and flying with my hot air balloon, so why not add some wings to make it into a funkier tag? Here it is...

I just cut slits on either side of the balloon and slid the butterfly wings into place. Totally different look from the original!

Have a wonderful day!!

Creative Chemistry Summer 2016 - Week 1

It's back and I am ready for a refresher course in Creative Chemistry with Tim Holtz, and excited about CC103 in August! Are you back in class or taking it for the first time? I hope you will join in the summer fun with me.

We are starting the summer off with a challenge, and I have been garden oriented lately, so my tag I created certainly reflects that.

A quick photo share of the tag's creation...

Here's to some beautiful summer memories and a fun summer of learning with "The Professor of Distress" himself...Tim Holtz!
