Flower Power!

Welcome back to our Monday challenge, friends! We have a brand new theme for you this week - FLOWER POWER at our Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. For me the words flower power take me right back to the 1960's when I was a young girl. Flower Power was often a saying associated with the "hippies", but also showed up in fabric in big bold colorful floral designs.

I had a blank canvas bag in my stash and decided to alter it in a Flower Power style, kind of wacky and wild. 

I chose a big bold Tracy Scott flower stencil from Paper Artsy to use with Dina Wakley paints.

I rely on my craft sheet for so many projects. It works as a palette, and lets me tap off paint from my sponges so I get a good image. 

You can see I did a bit of blending in the design here. TIP - when painting on canvas like this, be sure to put a piece of cardboard or something in-between the layers.

A couple of "dotty" Simon Says Stamp stencils...

I stenciled dots and circles in blue and green around the trio of flowers.

Then, more stenciling with Dina Wakley's Shape Mashup and Tim Holtz's Dot Fade stencils. We are heading back to the 60's for sure!

I decided to just have the trio of flowers on one side of the bag. Sometimes you just don't want crazy colors everywhere!

This would make a great book bag or craft tote.

On the other side of the bag, I went all out with color and pattern...lots of dots, shapes, circles, and those big bold blooms!

Inspired by India at DecoArt today!

I wanted to invite you to pop over to the DecoArt Mixed Media blog today for my tutorial on creating the Inspired by India canvas. I love the bright colors I saw everywhere in India on my trip and the wonderful patterns and fabrics. 

Here I am learning Rangoli, which is painting with flowers, sand and/or rice, in bright vivid colors.

Quothe the Raven

We are approaching the season that so many of my friends wait for all year - Halloween! I was inspired to make a tiny canvas 3"x3" for the celebration.

Quinacridone Gold and Yellow Oxide and the Distressed Digits stencil. I'm using the new Americana Premium paints, which are great! I love having the option of the thicker paints.

Next, I stamped the skeleton on the background from Andy Skinner's newest stamp set Birds and Bones.

I layered on more color with the Baroque stencil and Cadmium Red. I was aiming for the face to be more noticeable, but it really is more of a pattern.

Green Gold is next with the stencil. This hue is fast becoming a favorite!

I had leftover paint on my craft sheet, so I dabbed it onto a scrap of book paper to use for stamping the raven.

I rubbed in some Burnt Umber to tone it down. Sometimes, the finger is the best tool!

Ultra Matte Varnish to attach the papers and seal the canvas.

DecoArt products I used on this.

I added a thick layer of clear crackle, and then patiently waited for it to dry. I love the huge crackle pattern. I rubbed in some Payne's Grey to bring out the crackle. Oh yes, I am liking this!

Ghosts, ghouls and goblins...after all the veil between the worlds opens on Samhain or Halloween!
