under The Sea

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  FUNNY PUNNY Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: ON/UNDER THE SEA 

We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine...Can you imagine journeying through an awe inspiring undersea world?

 

 I began by stamping my underwater scene in the watercolor journal.

Next, I stamped in the sea creatures for my scene. 

Once my sea creatures were stamped and dry, I went in with watercolor. I started with the background, and then added color to the images. 

Sometimes when you sleep on something, you come up with a new idea. This happened to me. I though it would be cool to make some rusty portholes to look our into the ocean. I did some ink smooshing to create this  rusty look.

And of course, a super fun addition to the underwater scene - a yellow submarine! 

I drew around my tape roll to get the circles, then cut them out with scissors. Around the opening, I drew a circle and "rivets" to create my portholes. 

Well, the hot weather here certainly has me thinking about going to the ocean. It would be wonderful to explore underwater too. I love the sound of the waves rolling in, the cry of the birds, and the feel of wet sand between my toes, but a part of me would love to slip beneath the waves and explore a world like this.

Stars and Stripes

It's been wonderful having Ann Chuang with us again as our guest designer. I am sure you have enjoyed her gorgeous makes as much as I have! 

This week the challenge is:     Stars and Stripes

I began with some ink smooshing with one of my favorite ink colors - Citrine. 

I made some star patterns and drew them on the watercolor paper, then cut them out.  

Meanwhile, I did some blue stripes in the art journal with watercolor. 

More prep included stamping the crazy birds, adding watercolor, and cutting these out too. 

I decided to add some more pizzaz to the pages with sparkler stamps and gold leaf.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

 

 Hello Monday, my friends! And welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the  BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is: USE MORE THAN ONE STENCIL

Let's keep the bright and cheery colors going into this week's challenge. I love the look of watercolor with stencils, and it made the perfect background for some funky flowers I doodled.

BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED 

 

I began with a layer of water spread on my pages, then I dropped in several watercolors and blended them a bit. I partially dried this layer before moving on. 

Next, I used three stencils and wiped back some of the color with a baby wipe.  

 You can see what a lovely design emerges with this technique.

I doodled some flowers and leaves onto book paper from my stash that I had previously painted.  I also added a bit of light stamping.

Some white splatter is always fun to add. 

 I hand lettered "Boom where you are planted" with a black marker.
